Great Guff For Film Buffs
Film lovers will have double the reason to rejoice this week with the 25th St Kilda Film Festival. The biggest and most respected short film festival in Australia, this corker of quality celluoiud opened on Tuesday 6th at the gorgeous Palais Theatre in St Kilda with a huge party and plenty of famous faces. The St Kilda Film Festival program is really dynamite this year with a killer line up of short films from some of our most talented film geniuses from Australia and the World.
A particularly interesting part of the festival program is ‘SoundKilda’ which celebrates the medium of Music video showcasing some of the hottest new clips to come out of our country. SoundKilda is on Thursday 8th from 9-10pm with a fabulous after party, at the George Cinemas.
The _25th St Kilda Film Festival only runs till the 11th May, and all the filmic action takes place at the George Cinemas in Fitzroy Street St Kilda. It’s short, very sweet and totally unmissable.

The Girls Have It
TGI Fridays. Especially this Friday 9th May when Girlbar returns to the Prince of Wales to rock our world. Luckily this awesome all-girl pussy powered night out isn’t just for the girls. The fabulous Sexotechs are set to perform, and booked to rock the decks are DJs Little Shan, Sarah Bromley, and a special guest – which basically translates to ‘we haven’t worked out who it is yet.’ Whoever it is, you know it’s gonna be good.
Bear Nessessities
Bears of Melbourne unite this Saturday for their monthly night of fun and debauchery, at what is without a doubt Melbourne’s most exciting newest gay venue, Sircuit. In the spirit of giving, it’s also a Vic bears fundraiser which is where part of your $12 entry goes. However Vic Bears members get in for $10. Beer is free between 5pm and 6pm. Yes, that’s right. It’s FREE for an hour. After that it’s just $2.50 a pot!
The venue is also running a competition looking for some of Melbourne’s sexiest bears to feature in the 2009 ‘Bears at the Bar’ calendar. Have you got what it takes? After 10 beers or so, you will.
Fag Tag: It Must Be Love
Feeling excited? Well you should be. Fag Tag is the breath of fresh air to the Melbourne gay scene, and the next one is this Sunday 11th , from 4pm at Collins Quarter in the city! Yay!!
Collins Quarter is a hidden gem of a drinking hole on the edge of a city with a gorgeous bar and a great little outdoor courtyard.
Melbourne’s first Fag Tag was amazing, with a great friendly vibe and incredible chemistry. We all felt something that has just been missing in the Melbourne scene for so long. It was just so awesome to go somewhere other than the usual treadmill of gay clubs, and it was also great to see so many guys and girls from across all the scenes. If you were silly enough to miss out the first Fag Tag, just don’t make the same mistake again.
Flavour of Sundays!
Club Valve has a great special for those Fag Taggers who want to keep partying on after Collins Quater, with an offer of free entry AND a free drink for all those who drop into Valve on Sunday after you’ve been tagged. Now that’s an offer too good to pass up.
Sundays at Club Valve is a hit, especially for those club enthusiasists who have to work on Mondays but love going out Sundays. Finally we can all can get a tasty helping of Sundays without pulling an all nighter, and still have some glamourous fun. The venue’s 2 levels of gorgeous gay party pleasure were filled with a pretty diverse sexy crowd. It’s going to be the place to be this Sunday too. Take my word for it.
Foxy Birthday
Love it or loath it, Love Machine is an ‘IT’ club in Melbourne and has been for some time now, especially on it’s gay night on Sundays which draw big names and cool kids from all scenes. It’s definitely a place where you have to pack your wallet, extra confidence and a whole lot of fun attitude if you’re going to make the most of it.
One of the key people who makes Love Machine what it is – and many would say THE man responsible for the biggest and best gay Sunday around – is fierce promoter Silverfox aka Warwick.
Well Wazza is celebrating his Birthday this weekend culminating in a massive – and I mean MASSIVE party at Love Machine this Sunday night. Owners are decorating the whole interior with a silver theme, just for the occasion.
I’ve been to the man’s parties before and they are totally outrageous, so you can just imagine how his SilverFox Birthday is gonna go off.
Mecca Sure You’ve Got Your Ticket
The glitter drought that I predicted last week appears to slowly be coming true. And who do we blame for all this? Why, all you fabulous party people who have been getting busy with your glue guns and singer sewing machines preparting for Mecca’s 5th Birthday Glitter theme. The party is just over a week away, so if you haven’t got your tickets already, hop to it! What are you waiting for?
Super Spunk DJ Alex Taylor, Murray Hood and Dan Murphy, 3 Sydney favourites are heading south to Melbourne just for Mecca’s 5th, as well as Melbourne DJs Chardy, Gus Cullen and Haylenise. A live performance by a special guest has also been rumored… *Crosses fingers and repeats mantra ‘C’mon Seany B’
Mecca’s 5th Birthday is on at The New Colonial Hotel in King Street in the city, on Saturday 17th May.

The Young And The Wristless
Young and Gay is a workshop for guys aged 18-26yrs. Run by the Victorian AIDS Council and the Gay Men’s Health Center, the 6 week program educates on the many facets of Safe Sex, and provides an opportunity for young guys to hang out and make friends. It’s always reassuring to meet like-minded guys and to get some direction when you’re discovering the scene and defining your identity.
Personally I’ve encountered many guys who have been through the program that is a Melbourne institution in itself, so I’ve seen what a positive experience it has been for them. From what I hear, you’ll probably swap a phone number or two. So get yourself a ‘little black book’ and a new special friends folder on your MSN before you head along.
The next workshop begins May 20th, so if you’re interested, get on the phone to Asvin at the VAC on (03) 9865 6700
