Scene Queen

The Queen’s Birthday holiday is one of biggest weekends on the queer calendar. Just in case you haven’t already decided what you’ll be doing this long weekend, Same Same has the low down on the top events happening in Melbourne.

SuperGirly’s American Tour at the Opium Den
Here’s something different, a bit cultural, sure to tickle your funny bone and will definitely give you a touch of that party vibe. Acclaimed comedy performer Supergirly is playing her second and final gig (at least for a while) at Opium Den this Friday.

Join tongue in cheek ‘pop princess’ Supergirly on her hysterically funny musical journey where she tackles the music industry and Hollywood’s rich and famous. First stop, it’s over to Britney’s Malibu Mansion, then Santa Monica for a dance session with the Pussycat Dolls, and finally a day spa at with who else Her Majesty, Cher. The Opium Den has been experiencing a revival, and shows like this are the reason why.

Supergirly is at the Opium Den, Friday June 5, 9pm till late.

Quork: Mutant Disco
Attention all mutants! If all this plastic party perfection is totally not your cup of Java, then beam up to this exciting unknown quantity. Quork Mutant Disco is intended to be a weekly alternative, but it has its hot launch this Queen’s birthday weekend at the Glasshouse from 11pm.

This alien spacecraft features some of Melbourne’s finest House and Twisted Disco djs, on rotation each and every week, including Peter McNamara, Liz Millar, Papa Tom, Rachel Lister (Kista), Kon, Beanie, Courtney, Butch Le Butch, Bud, aNyO, Jimi Harrison, Arlen De Silva, Frisky, Rob Gilbert, Gavin Campbell… and more! Just who will do the opening night honours? There is only one way to find out. The truth is out there…

Quork is on at the Glasshouse on Saturday June 6 from 11pm til 6am.

Rogue London
Lemme hear you say hell yeah! Rogue London is the biggest party around this long weekend, and has been the biggest party of each season for a while now, almost always selling out. Firstly, party organisers have chosen a fantastic venue that’s gonna make you cream your jeans – Platform One at Vault 8, Banana Alley in the city. Secondly, they have the best music from one of the most awesome DJ line ups around led by UK import, the fabulous Wayne G. If that’s not enough to make you feel like the Queen Of England, then keep in mind that their after party is led by Sydney’s ‘Phoenix Rising’ team. Bam! There’s also discount entry at Subway Sauna for party-goers who feel like a bit of rumpy pumpy in between boogies. Just face it, this party is pretty damn hard to beat!

The only bad news is that if you don’t already have a ticket to this fab event, chances are you’ve missed out. With most ticket outlets have been sold out of tickets to the party for the past few days, with only Eagle Leather having a stash of under 100 for sale.

Rogue London is on Sunday June 7, 11am till 7pm.

God Save The Queen
The awesome crew that bring you super cool glam events like Mile High and New Year’s Day at the Stokehouse bring you God Save The Queen. This cool party is in Comme; a gorgeous venue at 7 Alfred Place, in the city. This party doesn’t need advertising, as the word of mouth credibility the party organisers have built over the years have ensured that they always have a healthy cool crowd of people who really know how to party in style. And all the money that isn’t spent on advertising is put into making one hell of a kick arse party.

The DJ line up includes Liz Millar, Beanie, Jason Sennit, Gavin Campbell, Damo Diggler and Mr Takse, plus a whole heap more over two levels of party heaven. Special guest performers include talented soul vocalist Siki Daha. God save us all! It’s gonna be awesome. Dress to impress baby.

God Save The Queen is on Sunday 7th June, 7pm till 3am at Comme. Tickets are $55 from The Carlton Hotel at 193 Bourke St, Melbourne, or $65 on-line (collect at the door).

Homesexual presents Melbourne Black
The legendary Sydney club parties have finally found their way down south to Melbourne, and they are uniting party-goers in a Melbourne standard; Black.

Superstar Israeli DJ Yinon Yahel headlines the party that also features DJ sensations Kitty Glitter and Homesexual’s resident Jayson Forbes. So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Ame Delves is taking care of the shows and performances.

Homesexual Black promises incredible sound and state-of-the-art visual effects to awaken your senses as well, including a machine made eclipse that will periodically plunge party goers into the black of darkness. You’d think it would be cheaper to just turn the lights off.

A big thumbs up for their city location, the recently refurbished Billboard nightclub in Russell Street. Smokers beware though – there’s no real smoking room here.

Homesexual Black is on at Billboard on Sunday 7th June, from noon until 8pm plus after parties.

Market’s Queen Of Clubs
The Market Hotel is like a classic Armani Suit; It’s classic and simply never seems to go out of style. It’s always a great option for long weekends. The Market’s trademark progressive house gets shaken up with hot servings from this weekends featured DJ’s Phil Mezzatesta, James Fraser, Queen Martine, Peter MacNamara, Courtney and the fabulous Miss Eleni. Grind Male dancers will warm up your cockles on Friday night. Then look out Saturday for the hot 3am show produced by Zowie Knox. And on Sunday, Rhys from So You Think You Can Dance, takes the reigns for the 3am Spectacular. But hey, you’ll probably just be hanging out with me checking out the spectacular city views from the Market rooftop drinking and talking drivel. It’s all good baby!

The Market’s Queen Of Clubs is on all long weekend –
Friday 5th June, 10pm – 8am
Saturday 6th June, 10pm – 10am
Sunday 7th June, 10pm – 9am.

Dome 4
If you love trance and progressive house, and you had a soft spot for 90’s hit club Dome, then you’ll probably get a kick out of this party. The gorgeous interior of Room nightclub (Hawthorn) is the backdrop to this revival party experience that actually feature a damn decent DJ line up, including Queen Martine, Scott Anderson, Vas One and Sean Quinn. Get ready to rock, but just don’t turn up looking like the gum from underneath someone’s shoe. This event has a ‘dress glam’ entry policy, so make an effort.

Dome 4 is on Sunday 7th June, 10pm till 7am.
