Is it really that time of year already?! Sure is! Sparklers, popping champagne corks, fireworks, random pashes at midnight… Same Same has the top Melbourne events to be at this New Years Eve.
Sensation is the party that everyone is talking about, and the only place you can experience it in Australia is in Melbourne! Voted Victoria’s #1 festival event by dance web bible In The Mix , some 40,000 revelers attended last year’s sold out Sensation debut, the first in the Southern Hemisphere.
The 2009 Ocean Of White themed party is at Etihad Stadium on December 31, 2009. See in the New Year with mind blowing spectacular productions featuring breathtaking set pieces, fountains, fireworks and Australia’s biggest laser and light show. Sensation will also feature amazing performers, dancers and acrobats. And then there is the truly awesome DJ international and local line up, including Swedish House Mafia superstar Sebastian Ingrosso, alongside New York City house legend Roger Sanchez, Richard Durand and Australia’s own international success stories Dirty South, Kaz James and TV Rock stars Ivan Gough and Grant Smillie. More local DJ talent abounds with infamous party girl Ruby Rose, Andy Murphy, Jody McLeod, plus a host of Australia’s finest house, electro and minimal talent.
You’ve seen their very sexy gay posters all over town. If you wanna know where all the cool kids are gonna be hanging out this NYE, then the answer is Closet! Closet takes over the fabulously grungy Roxanne parlour in the city, and it’s the biggest gay/lesbian NYE party in town.

It’s the girl event that has stood the test of time, and has ruled for the past 16 years. Girlbar’s NYE event is definitely one of the top queer nights to be at, and best of all, it’s not just for the girls alone. Rocking music, a great club vibe and a super hot venue will once again make Girlbar a favourite amongst girls and their male friends.
Upstairs at The Prince Of Wales lights up with laser shows by ‘Elements Of Purple’, heats up with sweaty sexy shows by the Sexotechs, and fills the dance floor all night long with Dextrous, Little Shan and Jason C in the Main Room, and Sarah Bromley in the members only back room. Hello!
What a way to ring-a-ding-ding in the New Year girls!
Sircuit Bar – NYE Summer of Blokes
New Years at Sircuit is men only and free entry all night, so sexy boys and leather men from both sides of the river can get some bang for their buck and buy him a beer afterwards. The NYE events kick off the venue’s ‘Summer of Blokes’ events series which is set to heat up the Midsumma season with a feast of manly goodness. Sounds damn good to me!
New Years Eve Thursday 31st December is a great time to spend with blokes you know, mates and friends. Melbourne DJ legend Gavin Campbell is in charge of the music and will bring the New year in with a bang and a Midnight countdown. A stripper or two will help bring on Midnight from 10pm. Oh la la.
After partying in the New year perhaps up all night, or just finished a day party there comes a time when a bloke just wants to get a little dark and dirty. We have all been there! Sircuit opens at 8pm on Friday January 1 New Years Day with a men only after party.
One of Melbourne’s few full time gay clubs for seasoned clubbers, The Market is always a fantastic NYE option. Expect a fabulous midnight countdown, 3am show extravaganza, The Market’s trademark awesome lighting, and pumping sound. And how about seeing the first light of 2010 on the Market’s stunning rooftop terrace while sipping on a wickedly fabulous cocktail? And the fun continues well into New Years Day and night. There’s no place like home.
It’s the gay dance event to be at on New Years Day. And what a way to begin 2010!
