TGI Friday! Because kicking off this Australia day weekend is the fabulous Closet party. Closet organizers come fresh from their hot NYE event and more recently their amazing party featuring a live performance by Sam Sparro. Their Midsumma party is set to keep their winning streak going at Roxanne Parlour in the City (Coverlid Place) from 10pm this Friday 22nd January. It will be an arty tongue in cheek celebrations of vegemite sandwiches, Chopper Read and boagns and Priscilla – you know, all things cringingly Aussie. Shaking the room are the maestros of uplifting house, Mike Evans, Haylenise, Jimi Harrison and Megaphone. And in the VIP room, move it to the hottest hip hop, 80’s and 90’s. Too much fun!
There are only a few weeks left until the Sydney’s Mardi gras Parade on February 27th. So what better way to show your queer aussie pride than by representing Melbourne and Victoria up at Mardi Gras this year! The Melbourne Pride Team is the new group who is head up to Sydney to do just that with their very fun ‘Peace Train’ theme. They are hosting a social meet and greet for those who want to find out more about the group and what’s involved in joining them for their debut effort in Sydney.
If you’ve ever wanted to march at mardi gras, or want to do it again with a group from Melbourne, then head on down to Fawkner Park in South Yarra (Near the basketball courts – Enter via Pasley St North, off Punt Rd, follow to the end of the road) on Saturday 23rd January from 4:30 – 6pm. 20 hours of proud party fabulousness!? That’s what you’ll get at Proud this Sunday 24th January from noon till 7am the next day! The venue for this amazing party is the gorgeous Ocean Blue at Station pier in Port Melbourne, that features 2 massive indoor / outdoor areas and sea views. First up is an Aussie BBQ from 2am till 4pm, before the serious boogie festivities take over. The Rogue Parties continue going from strength to strength. Their New Years day parties at motel and silk road were the hottest event over New years. This time, Rogue Nation takes you to a wonderful seaside location too, Alumbra. Party pleasure is guaranteed with some of Australia’s best DJ’s and Melbourne’s sexiest all-gay atmosphere. Max Sanna from the UK is the international headliner, along with 2 secret international singers who will grace the stage for Rogue. One of them has been revieled to be Peter Millwood. But the other is still a mystery. Then there’s a great selection of Melbourne and Sydney’s finest DJs including Mike Evans, Haylenise and Scruffy. Doors open from 11am on Sunday 24th January. Heeharrr! Ride em Cowboy! Those very sexy men over at Sircuit are celebrating a Summer of Blokes with this very fun Midsumma Buck and Ride event. The fun starts on Saturday night, 23rd January from 10pm. Sircuit’s Annual Midsumma Rodeo weekend starts on Friday the 22nd with cowboys on the hoist and then on Saturday January 23rd the top twenty riders from 2009 will buck off for a winner takes all $1000 cash prize, as they find our 2009 Sircuit Cowboy. The Lip Service crew on Sunday the 24th will have a take from the Horny crew on our Rodeo involving Dolly Parton, Reba McIntyre and Steps “5,6,7,8”. Then on Monday night the 25th January (Australia Day Eve) it’s all be about the beer.
No one heats it up like the Market Hotel, and their Summa parties have quite a reputation for being one of the busiest and most fun nights on the calendar. Adding to the heat is a very sexy underwear / speedo fashion parade at 1am followed by a 3am dance show, all featuring the Market dancers from Todd Patrick studios.
