With so many exciting things going on right through the month of June, its hard to decide which Brisbane Pride events to attend! We share a few of our must-do’s below.

This year’s Pride has definitely seen its fair share of obstacles. It is amazing to see so many people get involved this year, to not only guarantee that Pride will continue to please the masses, but also to cement the fact that this year’s Pride will be one of the biggest ones to date, fully catering to and embracing the diversity of the LGBT community.

The annual Pride Rally and March on the 11th of June will be a little different then in previous years. Of course there will be community leaders speaking about issues that are important to the LGBT community, but this year you can join thousands of LGBT’s and their supporters as they take to the streets to march along a brand new route to the Qnews Carnivale at Perry Park.

This year Qnews Carnivale is filling the void left by the cancellation of Brisbane Pride Fair Day. Be prepared for a day of music, stalls, rides, drag queens and all those other fun things that makes the vibrant LGBT community what it is today.

Queen’s Ball on the 12th of June is without a doubt going to be special. This year marks not only the 50th anniversary, but once more firmly cements itself as the longest running LGBT event in the world. To celebrate this momentous occasion this year’s Ball will be taking place at the iconic Cloudland in Fortitude Valley. Showcasing drag performers from all over South East Queensland, and with this year’s theme of ‘Gold’, this event will be one of the most glamorous events of this year’s Pride.

We also can’t forget the annual Queen’s Ball Community Awards where 12 awards voted by the public will presented for outstanding achievement in the LGBT community.

If you’re a fan of odd picnic or BBQ, you’re in luck, as Pride has an endless supply of them. On the 4th of June your very own SameSame.com.au is putting on a BBQ in Newfarm. So be sure to join us for our monthly meet up, while chillaxing with both old and fresh new faces indulging in the traditional Aussie BBQ.

If you love both the odd BBQ and Barefoot Bowls, you’re in luck. Brisbears in conjunction with Boot Co, T-Bar, and Order of Seven have joint forces for a social BBQ lunch and a game of barefoot bowls at Merthyr Bowls Club on the 12th of June.

Now of course our favourite clubs are joining in on the Pride celebrations, and boy are there some great nights planned…

On 11th of June Born This Way will take place at the Wickham with special guests such as DJ Kylie Rose, Bertie Page, Roving performers and much more.

On the 19th of June is Holes and Poles Vs Qsesh. The iconic Brisbane Pride Festival fundraiser is doing things a little different this year by teaming up with Brisbane’s queer and alternative night Qsesh. Be prepared for a night of live music, DJs and burlesque. With these two events joining forces it’s going to be bigger then Ben Hur!

Now take into account these are only but a few of the many exciting events taking place during Pride 2011. The fact of the matter is, there are just too many to name. One thing that can be guaranteed, is that there is something for everyone, so be sure to do yourself a favour and click on over to www.pridebrisbane.org.au for a full listing of what’s going on for Pride 2011.

Hopefully I’ll see some of your pretty faces throughout the Pride celebrations!
