All eyes are on the marriage equality campaign this morning, with rallies in Melbourne and Sydney, a live radio challenge to Julia Gillard, plus a heated TV rematch between Dr. Kerryn Phelps and ACL leader Jim Wallace.
Even Bob Katter has thrown a wobbly this morning!

Among various celebrities pictured in the latest Marie Claire magazine, Sydney Mayor Clover Moore was there, along with Green MPs Christine Milne and Cate Faehrmann plus other key figures in the marriage equality campaign. There were rainbow-coloured cupcakes and t-shirts given away in an all-out celebratory atmosphere.
A few foes of the movement like Peter Madden also showed up, with signs saying ‘Husband + Wife = Life’, ‘Children need a mother and a father’ and ‘Shame 7 shame.’
In Melbourne another large crowd had formed, with Magda Szubanski and Carl Katter (below) proud to appear, and a buoyant crew from JOY94.9FM showed their support.
This intro clip from Sunrise shows what happened and why:
The good folks at InsideOutTV also captured the action in Sydney. Take a look:
Live on 2DayFM’s Kyle & Jackie O show, Prime Minister Julia Gillard phoned in to say hello, and was naturally asked about her personal lack of support for marriage equality.
“I know I’m going to disappoint you… I haven’t changed my mind,” began the PM. Listen below.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kerryn Phelps and ACL leader Jim Wallace tackled the hot topic on 7’s Sunrise.
Wallace immediately raised tempers by comparing gay advocates to Nazis…
And over on channel 10 it was more marriage madness, as Queensland MP Bob Katter refused to answer a simple question – does he support gay marriage? Watch it here – he had a bit of a tantrum.
