Fag hags

Fag hags are fabulous female companions to gay guys. Yes, straight girls looking for a fun night out have attached themselves to gay guys before being gay was even an acknowledged thing. They get to have a footloose and fancy-free time away from those pesky straight guys eyeing/groping them, and their gay boys get to have a gossip girl sidekick who’ll listen to their hook-up dramas and maybe even drive them home from the club after they see their ex pashing someone else and must suddenly leave in tears – “Come on Trudy, we’re going!!”

Perhaps the best example of an enduring ‘fag hag’ friendship is that of Will and Grace, or that gruesome twosome from Gimme Gimme Gimme.

Some girls may take the phrase ‘fag hag’ as an insult, but most gay boys would actually treat their female mates like princesses and mean the term affectionately. There are even ‘Fag Hag’ pageants in some gay bars around the world, where the boys nominate their fabulous girl friends for top prizes.

Flying Bats Women’s Soccer Club

Sydney is home to the largest lesbian soccer club in the world. The club’s philosophy is simple – to play football, have fun and maintain good ‘sportswomanship’.

First originating in Adelaide, The Flying Bats were born when some of the founding members moved to Sydney. They were sitting outside one night wondering what they could call the club when a flock of bats flew across the evening sky – and the name just stuck.
