View Full Version : More Girl Content?

Hey folks,

Some of the SS members have been asking for more girl content, saying that the site is too "boy-sy". While the site is driven by contributors, and more girl contributors means more girl content, we do think that it's a fair call.

So we're keen to hear suggestions on the kind of girl content you'd like to see on Same Same. Do you want a regular snapshot gallery like "Manday" but along the lines of "Girl Friday"? More book reviews? More galleries from girls events? More features with top ladies? More video content?

Throw your suggestions in here!

Yay, for one thing Girl Friday would be an excellent idea; more to keep the girls coming back on a regular basis. :)

I feel the Health and Support section is very man heavy, I know it's open to all, but blokes don't reeeally want to hear about girls probs (unless they are those modern types who do)

I think I'd just like a safe place where guys can't really go. In fact, it might be nice for the boys to have their own space too. Just maybe for more sensitive issues?
I dunno....it gets complex.

its a tough one Christian cos basically i want more girls/bois contributing, and its always a slow and tough climb but i think theres already so many more than when i first joined. inch by inch we'll have equal representation!

more coverage of girl and male trans friendly events would be cool - more pics etc? interviews with some more dykons..and how about a story on dinah shore weekend ? (im obsessed with going next year and tickets have just gone on sale)

i want to say again, i think youve done a brilliant job trying to reach out to those of us that dont identify as bio gay men. and i want to also say thanks because realistically, samesame has made a huge positive difference to my life.

and lastly - to the grrls, bois, men, ladies and all the folk out there reading but not joining in - give it a shot - all of us are just one voice...but together...you know the drill! do it

I totally agree Gold femme! like you say, id like more girls/bois to contribute in threads ect, there is a ton more of us then when i first started too...but we dont get out voices out there like the boys do!! ( we lurk like i do :P)

Coverage of dinah shore would be awesome and maybe somthing about femme icons ... Dyke and Tomboys too....Just recently you did a top ten on gay men on tv...what about the girls?? How about talented unknown lesbian australian musicians? like a cover story almost....( Samesame's very own Nyssa, name is springing to mind here) Ive suggested this one before....How about a top 100 women? then one for the boys? (afterellen style of poll to find the top 100 women as voted by lesbians?) when you do a top poster in the forums for the month...how about a girl and a boy instead of just one?

More trans stuff would be cool too...not just the m2f but f2m and all the other variations.....interviews with drag kings....( which id love to know more about i must say)

As Ammi said i love the mix that same same has, and i think that you and the guys in sydney do a fantastically awesome job and love what you do.... but I feel there isnt a real answer to this than to try and get more female's to contribute...

One of the most appealing things about samesame is that is a mixed group; it makes for a healthy, non-sleazy, non-judgemental and refreshing environment. I would not like that to change and it would be great if the female representation would increase; although I guess that also comes with time.

I was under the impression that the Ladies Lounge was a place where the more sensitive issues could be bought up. I like that there are no exclusive spaces here. I think sometimes the guys can have just as valid and helpful input to ladies issues and vice-versa.

It would be great if the girls were encouraged to, and did, contribute more (I think Velvety is right, we tend to be observers more than contribute). We would then obviously see more girl content, then in turn more female contributers and so on... I think it would be fantastic if there were more focus on girls events, venues etc.

I would love to see/hear more about (as Velvety mentioned) Femme icons, Dyke, Tomboy and Drag Kings for sure! As I mentioned above also; something like Girl Friday would be fantastic! Hopefully stuff like that would keep the girls coming back to the site more regularly and getting more involved over time.

I also love that the mixed aspect of same same extends to social events such as the Wine evening. I couldn't make it that night because I was bedridden with the dumb flu, but I heard the girl representation was a bit thin on the ground :( Come on girls, we love our wine, right? ;)

You guys have been doing an awesome job and the site looks fantastic, has a great mix of people and I am glad I stumbled across it when I joined :D

Yeah, no segregation. That wouldn't work at all. Plus I like hanging with the boys. I don't want to not be allowed in their 'section'. Would just be great to have more chickies in the forums too.

I love the fact that samesame is a mixed site, and wouldn't want any segregation. Wish more of the gals would post and interact though.

I love chatting with the boys...but lately I feel a bit..I dunno...ignored? Maybe i'm being too sensitive, just some of the conversations get kinda blokey sometimes and I feel like I'm muscled out of things.
Then again, this is an old fear of mine so maybe I should just get some balls.

I don't think it would be "segregation" (that's a little dramatic IMO, this isn't 1950s USA) to have a couple of private sections. There are several mixed boards where we can chat to both genders, perhaps if the Ladies Lounge was a little more private more girls would be comfortable? I have no problem getting in there and chatting to the dudes, but Bells is right sometimes girls are muscled out of guy conversations a bit. Not to mention some girls might be reluctant to post a personal story or ask a sexual question when they know boys are reading. What's the problem with having 2 private areas for boys and girls, and the rest of the site for mixing? That's hardly segregation.

I think the issue is more about avoiding exclusion to areas and maintaining the mixed focus of the site, (it is possibly a little dramatic to compare how the word 'segregation' has been used in the context of this thread so far, to 1950's US 'segregation').
The Ladies Lounge by its very nature is a relatively private area where girls can and do talk about girl stuff; the guys would not tend to poke their heads in, but at least they are not excluded if they do feel they have something valid to contribute. I think most people tend to appreciate the openness and accessibility of the site; I would like to have access to the entire site without having to define my gender from one forum to the next, or to feel I am unable to contribute because of that.
I think the solution to being muscled out of the threads (I do agree a little with Bells in that respect), as Staria has said, is to muscle in; breasts, vaginas and all, speak up, establish and encourage more of a girl presence and balance within the forums, which would hopefully encourage more girls to post in the forums

:)

The word segregation by definition is usually used when talking about segregation in America, so yes I do think a little dramatic to use it in the context of a forum.

It's all well and good to say "muscle" in, and I don't have a problem doing that but some newer or quieter members might. Not all girls find it easy to speak up, and not all girls would want to talk about breasts and vaginas in front of men.

Bells asked for "a safe place where boys can't go." I bet she's not the only one who feels that way. I love my gay male friends but I wouldn't mind an all girl forum where we can discuss girl issues. That's nothing against men, but hey isn't it nice to get together with the girls and not worry about men from time to time? Like I said we have the rest of the board to mingle with the dudes, but maybe a boyfree zone would help the shyer girls "come out" a little?

Maybe we need some of the more "sceney" gals to write something! I for one would have no idea about the clubs and girls nights and stuff anymore. I could write about the most girly thing of all - being preggers and giving birth and having kids and stuff these days but it's not really of interest to the majority on this site I'm sure LOL. Don't want to bore the poor gay boys.

I used to contribute tonnes and urge some of you others now to take up the baton and run with it - the site is only as good as we make it!

I'd love to read some profiles of women doing interesting things in society. Doesn't have to strictly be about gay issues - sportspeople, artisans, travellers, anything fascinating really.
