Apparently Christine Anu was branded a lesbian on the weekend by a policeman who assumed the female friend sitting at a cafe with her was her partner. According to the Daily Telegraph, she was “fuming” about it.

Christine is a great supporter of the communities and i would clearly doubt that she was fuming about the fact that she was labelled a "partner" to a female companion I beleive it would be much more a racial aggression.

Yes, no doubt racially motivated. I met her when she did a 45 minute set singing at the Market in Melbourne a few years back. Not only was she fantastic as a performer, she spent two hours with me talking about respect: what it's like to be marginalised etc... such a respectful lady and a great supporter of the gay and lesbian community. Sydney and Melbourne appear to have become less tolerant of black people. The proof is in the pudding with discriminatory aboriginal issues in this country being worse off than 15 years ago. Howard and his gaggle of clowns made sure aboriginal respect was thrown out the door and vilified.

There is no way that Christine was fuming about being labelled a lesbian, that is just absurb. She is the most tollerent woman when it comes to sex, sexuality and race. If you wanna know who pulled the race and homaphobic card, take a look at the newspaper that told the lies.

An update - this from the Herald Sun -

"Christine Anu has denied she is homophobic after an angry backlash over an incident outside an Alexandria cafe in which a policeman allegedly branded her a lesbian... In a statement released yesterday, the My Island Home singer said she has dedicated a lot of time to indigenous and homosexual rights during her career.

...'I believe we all should be treated equally and not discriminated against,' she said. 'On this occasion I do not believe this was the case.'

Anu yesterday said: 'I am not homophobic or intolerant of homosexuality.

'A number of my family, friends and management are gay and play a strong role in fulfilling my life and support network for my children.

'We should not be identity labelled based on descriptions of sexual orientation, physical, romantic, postcode or circumstance.'

Ms Nyoni said it was distressing for the pair because they had been through it 'time and time again'."
