The new Vegemite is being called iSnack 2.0 - because it's the next generation Vegemite.

Quote from the guy who thought up the name:
""It was all a bit tongue-in-cheek, really. The 'i' phenomenon and web 2.0 have been recent revolutions and I thought the new Vegemite name could do the same.""
Only a geek would get what he's talking about.
I blame Apple for getting this world into the mentality that anything that starts with an 'i' must be inherently hip and cool with the crowd.

The same thing happened when the pharmaceutical company behind MYCOC was looking for a name several years ago and opened it up to a competition not unlike the vaginamite one.
Caused an up roar at the time.
MYCOC was almost called COCFORME however, it was considered too long!
something easier to swallow was in order it seems.
A young advertising executive from Boise Idaho who also named the Australian bionic ear implant company Cochlear won the competition to name MYCOC after he heard about the competition on his local radio station.

Apple made i popular and have copyright on the names that they use such as "ipod" and the like but it simply stands for Internet which makes this name completely ridiculous.
I mean seriously Internet snack 2.0
but given that its creation was to get the Yanks to buy the product as traditional Vegimite doesnt sell in the States, it will propably go down a treat along with all things i

Most foreigners (especially Americans) love huge lashings of peanut butter & they treat Vegemite the same way, thinking with an 'up-size is better' mentality. Then they wonder why Vegemite is too strong to stomach. There needs to be some kind of awareness campaign teaching foreigners the art of spreading Vegemite responsibly. Tee hee! You only need a schtikl of Vegemite, no need to hoist a big slab on the knife.

Big waste of money & yeast extract if it was a stunt.
Huge risk they took.
gandolf69
30th September 2009, 01:30 PM
What they should have done is narrowed it down to Top 5 and then let the people decide, Ash i do like Cheesy-Mite as it says what the product is and gives us Vegies the choice DO WE WANT TO BUY VEGEMITE OR CHEESY-MITE as our spread?
Sometimes the more simple concepts work better than complex work.

I think Bakers Delight have the name "cheesymite" sown up with their Cheesy Mite scrolls.
I have tried it (iSnack) and being a vegemite fanatic (I like it lathered on toast) its pretty tasteless to me - I would have called it vegelite simply based on the lack a flavour.....
With a name like iSnack 2.0 it won't be a seller.....i give it 6 months

The options will all be branded as Vegemite, with a choice between these six added tags: Cheesybite, Creamymate, Smooth, Snackmate, Vegemate and Vegemild.
I'll go with Cheesybite, what you peeps?

yeah, iSnack is a tool of a name. the outrage after it was released was hilarious though. but seriously, it has that...you know how when parents pronounce facebook, myspace and youtube and other 'modern' inventions? it has that awkward and unfamiliar tone?
yeah, this name reeks of that tone.
asher, i had the same idea- cheesymite. simple. why would they even bother putting it out there for people to vote, it's such a simple concept. but cheesybite is fine by me, ANYTHING but what they originaly decided. bleurgh.
