Those 80s people were just following the fashions of the day in clothes, grooming and speech. And we do the same now.

All societies demand that its members conform to it.
We may think we are special but our particular gay group of 2009 is equally conformist.

Ask yourself how much money and time do you spend to please your particular peer group by buying the correct clothes, iPods and cds and by using the correct catchphrases and attitudes.
