So, the date for the Federal Election has been set. Who will you be voting for? And who do you think will take out the top job? (http://www.samesame.com.au/news/local/1490/Howard-Vs-Rudd-The-Gloves-Are-Off.htm)

Rudd has it, but I don't think by much. The Libs will claw some votes back. They always have great campaigns that instill fear in the voter about what Labour might do if they get back in power. It's obviously a crock, but a great campaign tactic.

I can't wait for Howard's conceded speech. Costello will be crying, the smug bastard.

Lets all just wait for Rudd to release any policies before voting.

So far its all been ill discuss etc etc but nothing concrete.Clever tactic cause then you can do what you like cause you never promised to do anything in particular.
Kev claims to be leader of the labor party,Take a look also at state govt's do you want the federal govt run the same? are we willing to get rid of any accountability?
John Howard is also being blamed for lack of gay rights, Both parties are full of bigots.....Im voting democrats cause greens are only labor under diferent name, labor cannot be trusted and libs are ok just too conservative to take risks.

You don't vote for a leader, you vote for a representative and it's not a two horse race.

This is silly.

The catchy political slogan of the Whitlam era 'time for a change' is the new re-invented mantra for this election, if for nothing else, most are just plain sick and tired of seeing the comedy act of Costello & Son. Will someone please give Johnnie a Navman, the guy just doesnt know his left from his right. Time to go...we've been to the puppet show and we've all seen the strings-thanks Pete.

Why would any lesbian or gay man vote for either Labor or Liberal when we have a gay man with the most integrity of any federal politician leading the Greens? Vote Green I say (particluarly in the senate) and then if you really have a leaning one way or the other put one of the other two as your 2nd preference. If we can give the Greens the balance of power in the senate we have the best chance of getting gay legal reform at a federal level. Don't wait for Labor or te Liberals. Frankly you get to vote twice this way! Forget the Democrats they will be wiped out this time unfortuneately.

I will definately voting for The Greens at least in the Senate this election, the only party that hasn't taken a me-too approach

Integrity for bob brown?
Interesting all i see is a kid with his lollipop snatched away(he lost his senate control at last election). To me I beleive he is responsible for alot of people not voting greens as hes more labor than labor. To hold balance of power we need someone level headed and able to make the best decision for all. Vote democrats

i loves me a bit of bob brown - does it really work like voting twice if i put greens first and labor second? that's kinda cool.

I really don't think it is going to be as straightforward as the media are making it out. When it comes down to it the main voting population of Australia are conservative, afraid of change and concerned about their hip pockets.

Rudd's PR has been brilliant. I have been in awe of a few things he has pulled out of his hat; submitting chocolate cake recipes to Women's Weekly? Inspired. But as much as it is easy to label it as one, a federal election isn't a popularity contest.

Even with the support of the YouTube generation - many of whom aren't probably enrolled to vote - I don't know if Rudd can bring it home, as much as it would please me.

PS. In reply to someone above... the democrats? Are you serious? That vote is as wasted as I was the time I voted for the Horse and Outdoor Recreation Party on my way back from Arq.

It looks so far like I might be voting Labor in the House of Representatives (for Maxine mainly to beat Howard in his own seat) and Greens in the Senate. The pulp mill and rental affordability are my main concerns, not to mention my rights.

I can understand housing affordability.Perhaps we should stop taking immigrants at over 6000 per week to alliviate it a bit.
The pulp mill Labor supported the idea even before the enviromental study.Give turnbull his due he did put strict enviromental conditions on it.
My personal opinion tho is I still think it should be stopped for diferent reasons being I do not think its sustainable with current logging areas.I fear the tas govt will allow old growth forrests to be targeted.
Also i think its about time tasmania had better ways of providing employment. It will only keep breeding a red-neck underclass. Whats this about Education revolution etc and we still want to continue primative sources of income?
What ever happened to large scale hemp production?Surely hemp fibre is the way to go re-educate and train loggers etc to a better enviromentaly friendly industry.
