Gender Optimized Rock Caberet
From Metal to Maternal
Presented by Feast & Jade Starr.
One Woman - One Guitar - One Life
Sydney transgender rocker Jade Starr unleashes her rock cabaret show "From Metal to Maternal" at Adelaide Feast Festival for 2 shows only on Transgender Day of Remembrance 20th – 21st November 2009.
From Metal to Maternal is an audio visual rock cabaret auto-biography that confronts the emotional development of a male to female transsexual’s battle to leave behind a world of drug abuse, anger and heavy metal. Confronting visuals blended with wit, humour and possibly the most diverse voice in Australia make "From Metal to Maternal" a must see show for anybody who has battled with being transgender, an underdog or the black sheep.
Since the age of 14 Melbourne born Jade Starr has performed in Experimental, Death Metal, Jazz and Funk/Rock bands such as Despised, FMC (Filthy Maggoty C***) and Running With Scissors. At the age of 30 Jade began her transition taking 3 years away from music before returning in 2006 in Trans / Lesbian rock band "DreadCircus". She has successfully toured with DreadCircus all over Australia at LGBT festivals such as Feast, Midsumma and Mardi Gras. Recently Jade toured with queer comedian Glace Chase at The Melbourne Comedy Festival as backing guitarist and vocalist.
From Metal to Maternal confronts the inner struggle of being transgender, smashing music, video, word and theatre into a blistering account of the journey that has come to pass. Inspiring and brimming with hope, From Metal to Maternal will leave you breathless and emotionally blown away. Two shows only at Higher Ground Art Base, TDOR 20th – 21st November 2009.
“From Metal to Maternal" is humorous, poignant, hard-hitting and real...exactly as an autobiographical show needs to be." Sally Goldner, 3 CR Melbourne
