I think personalised number plates are a waste of money and reflect poorly on the individual wanting it. HOWEVER it is their right to do so, and i would back him for the simple principle of freedom of expression. I would also allow a nazi or kkk clan member to do the same... it is their right. As long as the slogan isn't inflammatory and incite violence. That is only when freedom of expression should be denied.

The man down the end of my street has finally changed his number plate which I assume he purchased on an impulse before I moved here 20 years ago. It was FONZIE.

I checked Herpes at the RTA once and it was still available - although not any more... Actually, there a gay guy in sydney with a plate that says BIGOT... which I think is quite weird.
