View Full Version : rant on plastic surgery....down there

Ok, i'm a bit late on this, but on Hungry Beast last week they featured a segment on the recent craze of "Labiaplasty" - or removing parts of your genitals that appear "bulky" or "ungainly" or "ugly".

In soft porn and a lot of nudy mags the women have their vaginas airbrushed to a nice little neat slit. This f**king OUTRAGES me:mad:   . Just another damn thing for women to feel shit about - that they don't think they look "normal" down there. That a woman would deliberately mutilate what she was born with is beyond me. There is poverty, war, depravity going on all over the world and we have to deal with THIS???

Opinions please.

there's a lot to be said for choosing the correct lighting...

There will always be some sort of standard of perfection set by popular culture. Whether we chose to be guided by it or attempt to achieve it is an individual choice. The more that being popular becomes less popular the better off we'll all be.

i have seen a few docos on this, and saw the hungry beast one. Drysdale the reporter made the point that the censorship laws are in effect erasing a part of the human body.

i can't understand it either, for a start who the hell is going to see it?

and i have to say, i quite like my labia minora, despite their 'imperfections', and if someone tried to cut them off, i'd defend myself in an equally violent manor.

the surgeon she interviewed pointed out that most women do not get to see many vulvas in real life apart from their own and what is in the media - i.e. airbrushed.
so once again lesbianism is the solution

ah, so lesbians must have a better view of their vaginas?! I like that idea - I find mine quite cute myself - I also would never let anyone near my labia minora with a scalpel - I think they're rather nice.

someone posted this comment on the hungry beast website. i have no idea if it is correct, anyone want to look it up?

I'm at a loss to understand how labiaplasty is legal. For a moment I thought that it was something that just went on in NSW, but further research revealed it's alive and well in Victoria too.

In response to the shocking practice of female circumcision, aka female genital mutilation, provisions were inserted to the Victorian Crimes Act. Female genital mutilation under the s. 15 definition includes 'the excision or mutilation of the whole or a part of the labia minora'.

Consent on the part of the woman is not a defence to this (s. 34).

The very act of performing s. 15 genital mutilation is an offence which can attract up to 15 years in prison (s. 32).

The ONLY exceptions to s. 32 are surgical operations which are necessary for the health of the person, to repair damage caused by childbirth, or for sex changes.

To make it abundantly clear, the Act underlines that the ONLY matters to be taken into account are those relevant to the 'medical welfare or the relief of physical symptoms of the person'. The Act underlines this so that no mistakes are made: social or religious circumstances are not to be taken into account.

Originally these provisions were put in place because us 'civilised' folk in Victoria rightly considered that taking to a woman's vagina with a scalpel for cosmetic/religious purposes for the pleasure of men, is wrong.

What exactly has changed that makes this practice legally acceptable?

also it bugs me when people try to call female genital mutilation 'female circumcision'.
i actually consider male circumcision mutilation also, but at least in that practice only the foreskin is removed.

the equivalent of male circumcision on a woman would be to remove the clitoral hood.
the equivalent of female 'circumcision' on a man would be to remove most of the penis.

*clamps legs shut* I hurt just thinking about it!! (Mind you, I'm probably one of the most sympathetic (Empathetic?? not sure of the right word) people you will ever meet - my eyes water at the thought of contacts!)

I have no idea why someone would want to do such a thing. Part of our beauty is our imperfections. And really, they arent imperfections at all! And the damned media shouldn't make women feel like they need to look better 'down there' when really, their partner should love every inch of their body regardless of how its formed! This really grates on my nerves as I honestly think that if someone is a good person, it sholdn't matter what they look like. I would date someone with one arm and no legs if I loved them!

oops sorry! rant over! lol

I say leave the lights on - Full - and enjoy all :p

I understand why people have surgergy for health reasons. I'm sporting a G cup which I'd be glad to get rid of for the sake of my health, but I'll be damned if I do it to comply with what's popular.

I love those " imperfections". Without them there would be none of that uniqueness and little to explore ;)

OMG!!!!

Women in african cultures have their labias sewn together n just a hole left 4 the male pentration no clitorus is stimulated...
i think naomi campbell had this done as a teen??

why would the silly women of today do such a ridiculous n un necesary thing as mutilate by choice our own genitalia is beyond me??????????

The world is so male dominated even without realizing it..
look at lesbian poses in mags most r shorn and butchered just 4 the Visual pleasure of men...

I admire female and males who have ungroomed bush s , keep it real people...

Whoa!!!
No idea where that came from??

Too much reading for this hour Ammi, but o_O to sewing it shut!!! FFS!!!! whether we r god made or evolutionists or whatever, our bodies are made a way for a reason!! unless it gives u health problems (like oversized breasts) I cannot see a good enough reason to do this. women are built for pleasure and should not be denied!!

and i doubt it looks any better with the surgery we talk about on here. those are the bits that make it interesting! gah! people these days...

I can't believe women pay for something that african children have forced upon them when they hit puberty!

As long as you and your partner are clean and hygenic, I don't see what the problem could be.

women think the area looks 'ugly' is the reason. so they 'tidy it up' and lose all the nice bits....

Not ugly. Spose they look a bit strange but no weirder than an elbow or an ear. And I've kissed both of those! If we all walked around naked we'd get over this "OMG, WEIRD" attitude some people have.

Having said that, I think penises are disgusting and can't imagine giving a guy a blowjob. But if I had to (i,e was str8) I spose I'd get used to it.
