where can you apart from gay clubs and events?
There seems to be quite a few lesbian dating sites around, like Pink Sofa for example. You can also ask around in the Brissie thread for coffeeshops and the like that are frequented by the GLBT community in Brisvegas.
I can happily say I am out to all. Since coming out, alot of my straight friends are mentioning their other lesbian friends, so Idare say there will be a few invites to dinner, parties etc if my friends have their way lol
As people have become aware at work (I'm not broadcasting it but not hiding it either now if it comes up in general chit chat), I've noticed that there are a few women at my work.
I had lunch today with 2 of my straight friends. They asked if I was getting out much and meeting women. When I said I wasn't (don't like to go out on my own), they promptly arranged for a night out at the one Lesbian haunt here in Canberra in a couple of weeks time.....bless em lol
On a side note, I was intrigued by your nic, so I googled it....
"Ammonite is a self-assured, unselfconscious, convincing depiction of a world without men..." Wow!

Err I always thought it was a pokemon.... Lol.
Try finding a dancing class or something. We have one here in Perth (I teach it! Lol) so I bet you'll have one near u. We also have a badminton class... Just have a look around for glbt groups

i don't think there is a same sex class so unless there is a shortage of them i'll have to dance with a dude and learn to follow
We also have a badminton class... Just have a look around for glbt groupsit doesn't seem like many women go to the stuff like that here
i think there's even only one other woman who posts on the brisbane forum
But i meant gay groups as well as gay events and clubs - i'm wondering about places other than those that i wouldn't have to lie about going to

yeah, i'm having the same problem. i don't think i've met another out lesbian since high school. and though i joined a fb group for a group that has outings relatively near, i don't want to go by myself...to meet new people. dilemma dilemma.
of course, i know the simple solution is to just do it. but easier said than done.

Ammonite, I've sent my friend a message just now so I'm waiting on a reply.
Pho, you're right. You just gotta plunge in! I was lucky in that going to the dance class was fine. I'd already been dancing for 6 years and had been teaching for a while. I was way more advanced than everyone else, so I just went for fun. Now I teach it!! lol. I don't enjoy it as much anymore though :( But that's cos I'm sick of social dancing. Take a straight friend who is comfortable with it. Then you're not alone and I'm sure if its a friendly environment they won't mind the odd straight one coming. And then you have a backup :)

a problem is that i'm not well enough to do a whole dance class, maybe 1 dance or 2 and then another couple after a rest

hmmm... u could maybe just try? ballroom isnt all that taxing... my group is pretty lenient so if ur lucky, maybe the bris one will be too! no reply yet, but its my friends birthday so she may take a while to reply

I've been to a few local meetups, and yes it's nerve wracking to walk into a group of people you don't know, but that's when it can be great to organise some kind of activity. My group went bowling, and before long we were all laughing and coming up with silly games like bowling eyes shut or with your other hand. When you're busy doing something it's a little easier than just sitting with a group of strangers and trying to make conversation!!
Am and Pho: maybe try writing a thread asking for girls in your area if they are interested in meeting for an activity and see who responds?

I actually think sites like this would be better than exclusively matchmaker ones- here everyone puts effort into making friends, not finding a fuck. I went on LMM for a while but found that every convo became a "what do you look like, would I wanna sleep with you?" type of situatiion.

whoops! sorry Ammi, I forgot. My friend got back to me. she hadnt got into contact with mark, but she said something about QUAC. apparently its a website or something. have a look anyway. maybe itll help!! i think she said it had QLD gay events on it.
Trine, you're right I think. I tried dating sites and didnt like looking at someone and judging on whether I would like to date them. And SS seems to have worked for a few! Jade and Staria are an excellent example of this!

Staria was the first person to speak to me on samesame, the first person to 'friend' me too, so I've always had a soft spot for her. She was lovely. Is. She's not on much nowadays it seems. I don't think I've ever spoken to Jade but I have seen her around (in the forums) and she seems lovely.

only problem apart from over-exertion would be how to explain taking the train/bus all the way to camp hill or spring hill for dance lessons i could technically do around here. i could just say i don't want to dance with 75 year olds...
just_dance
27th March 2010, 08:02 PM
i think it's a very valid reason!! older people can dance, but they aren't good (or fun) to learn with as u just cant get their posture right and their bodies aren't flexible any more. I don't mean it offensively. I have lots of older friends and the social I go to on Sundays is pretty much all 55+ and theres a few good dancers there!
is camp hill very far from you? i can always ring Mark and find out if there's any other classes that would be closer. I got his phone number the other day so I can call him myself rather than go through others lol
ammonite
