In 2008 I conducted research exclusively for Crikey about how the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community voted in the 2007 Federal Election.
It was a section of Australia’s community whose voting power had been spoken and written about a great deal but rarely researched or understood.
Unsurprisinly Labor came out on top with 77% to the Coalition’s 23% on two party preferred. The Greens did remarkably well with a quarter of the vote in the lower house and a staggering 40% in the Senate.
So now three years later how are Australia’s gay community taking to Kevin Rudd? Have they been turned on or turned off by Tony Abbott’s shirtless pictures? Only one wayto find out…
