Quite frankly I dont wake up in the morning, spring myself of my mattress do some handstands/cartwheels looking forward to going to my work...I find the people I have been working with who have been together for over 10 yrs in the same job(Im the token new-ish person) so dreary & un-inspiring - women mostly bitchy toward me, strange but true.
To even mention gay is like taboo - you know like an alien misfit or something very similiar...so I sit there in a 'noodle' bubble wishing I wasnt there
Looking for other work of course, just wondering if there was anyone else that would like to share their work life *sighs* I think I need some positive uplifting :D

All jobs have their good and bad points, so maybe you could try listing some of the good points? I think there are very few people out there who actually love going to work, it's just something we have to do. But I think the people you work with is one of the most important things in a job, so that sucks that you don't get along with them. Do you think they'll warm to you after you've been there for a while? And it would be nice to be able to be open at work, but I guess you're not there to discuss homosexuality.

I used to have a really good job in NZ.. but then I came here. I've been looking for work for what seems like forever, and it is so disheartening. I just wish someone would give me a chance because I know I wont disappoint them, but I guess I need to stick at it for a bit longer. I think the job climate is tough at the moment, and being from NZ they often use it against you - I have heaps of experience but they say "oh it's not Australian experience" when it's really not that different.

Hate mine - got another one - 6 days left here - extremely excited about it.

You don't have to love your job but you should be able to tolerate it...

You can do it!! Keep looking and get out! :)

well you heard me whining about one of my jobs and how my last shift went =(

my other job...the bosses are decent but very particular, pay is crappy, conditions are decent.

aww. i don't know if it would be taboo. my male boss seems like the typical asian male, so i'll never say anything, but the younger workers are my age, seem pretty ok. i wouldn't bring it up unless i was dating someone, then i'd casually mention my girlfriend.

that sucks neptune. sometimes you just need a foot in the door. i spent several months obsessively searching for a part time job, FINALLY got one, it's such a relief/quite weird to not be bug eyed scrolling down seek.com. good luck!

i actually love my job, i really do. boss is amazing. its corporate but knowing i only want to stay there another 3 years tops drives me to make the most out of it. i also have a very hard line between work life and social life, and when i step out of work i leave all of the stress behind and become the after 5 goldfemme that parties and makes music and art. having a full after 5 life makes me less of a loser at work - unlike others i work with that are desperately trying to make something of themselves at work.

but mostly its my boss and the senior execs that i completely love, they adore me and make my life at work a blast.

I hated my previous job. It was very stressful and my work wasn't appreciated despite putting in so much effort and time. But I stuck on to it for 4 years as it was my first job - you're always a little attached to your first. Just quit in April so that I can rest, do some temp work and go back to uni. My current job is boring but the people are nice so I guess I'm alright with it. Moreover, because I'm temping, I don't have heaps of responsibilities on my shoulders to worry. Having said that, I miss having challenging work though. If only I can fuse the two jobs together - perhaps it would be the best! I'm sure we can find a "looking forward to work" job as long as we manage our expectations and keep looking. I want to believe that I can find such job one day ;-)

Love it, meet people from all stages of life and once I'm finished all my study related to it I'll be able to live and work pretty much anywhere I want.

The good point is Im working, Im just a square peg in a round hole - I dont fit the mould, just have to accept it & move forward!
Anyhoo I went to NZ a few years ago & loved it, I went with no preconceived views but was so pleasantly surprised & would love to go back for another holiday. It was like being in Australia so am really surprised your feedback re your job search was s0 harsh....dam people can be complex - good luck with your search, you'll find that great job again...;)

And no your your right, I wouldnt go to work to talk about my sex life however everyone is free to talk about their husbands/wife ect...I dont judge that or think its taboo to talk about it ....even though I think the whole world could potentially be gay :D

I don't hate my job, I've worked for the same company in different roles since I left school so we have kind of become like a family. Good friends, lots of drinking and talking shit together. I get away with murder in my job. But I'm really sick and bored of what I'm doing and would love a change. Just I don't know what's next. So I'm not prepared to leave until I know because I have such a sweet deal here.

I sympathise with you noodles, I hate my job too.
Some days its only mildly, when I have tasks that don't require me to deal with the general public, but most of the time its a kind of slow burning rage that will probably turn into ulcers on day! lol.

I once snapped and told a drunk customer that i didn't really give a shit about his safety (he was trying to walk-through the drive-thru which is a big no-no) and that he could lie down on the road and wait for a 4wd to crush him for all I cared....didn't get in trouble for that. Even my boss just laughed.

...

That's actually kind of a good memory for me but at the time I was in a foul temper.

i like my job.
i'm very hardly supervised and get to do things that aren't urgent in whatever order i feel like and i rarely need to deal with customers, unless i'm on customer service.
plus i get a fairly good workout depending on the nights/week/weekends happenings.
though i do get annoyed when i get asked to go from one side of the complex back to the other to open a door or 'fix' a microphone that hasn't been turned on...
but other than that, i get to ride the pallet jacks around like my own personal heavy scooters.

I love my job, which is looking after my kiddies! I do volunteer firefighting on the side, so that kind of keeps me sane, and I also do readings for people which I thoroughly enjoy!

I love my job.
It's very challenging, hard, and there are long hours...
But you need to find where your passion is, and most importantly: make sure that the job works for you and that the organisation suits you and not the other way around.

Hang in there :)

What makes people tick in a job?

1) career advancement
2) money
3) prestige
4) long hours for whatever reason
5) challenging
6) ability to wear nice clothes (trust me, I know someone who thinks this is a priority)
7) travel
8) perks such as best employee award
9) people
10) others, please specify e.g. ability to find a good partner

I don't like my job anymore. I feel like I am wasting precious time. Plus, it doesn't help that I am surrounded by homophobes, technophobes and dumb dumbs.

How do you discover what to study and what you want to become?

I can't make up my mind, but I need to soon before it destroys my soul :-(

Keep trying and work things out? Never an easy way. Education system expects 17-18 year olds to pick courses for their career path - imagine! Another 50 years of working in a field determined at the age of 17! It's pretty tough. But you're not alone.

I like job, i mean, yeah i'm not bounding out of bed, but that might be because i have to be up and out of the house by 6:30am, I work for an IT support company who contracts us out to Department of Education and Training, doing on-site work in schools, generally my days are pretty full on between dodging children, but i'm mostly at sites by myself so really i'm my own boss, its up to me to manage my time, but i get some schools where i'm finished by 9 or 10am so i just cruise the net for a while, its rare, but much liked.
The actual people in the company i work for are great, my boss is the nicest guy ever, and everyone i work with is really nice, we often have work lan parties/lazer tag etc.
and i'm doing quite well at my job too, and my boss appreciates my work, i've only been with the company 3 months have already i have an e-tag, a mobile and a laptop (wasnt ment to get any of that till i'm second level support =O) and when someone appreciates your work, it makes you want to work harder :)
(the pay is pretty average but, NEXT ACHIEVEMENT... PAY RISE gogogogogo)

Hey - I had the same experience when I moved over. People assume you wont stay for more than a couple of months. Stick at it though you will find work - I did!

someone at work today actually complimented my work! a nice old lady who looked like eloise hawking from lost, and her husband ordered sandwiches, and she came back to say they were lovely ^^.

ok. what i like about sandwich job: good environment- clean and ordered. one sandwich a shift. the opportunity to eat snippets hear and there, and drink the smoothie leftovers. decent co workers. usually decent customers. reasonable bosses

dj job: independence. i don't have a boss whilst i work, i just have clients, and they change each week. i get to sit down. i get to listen to music.

cons.

sandwich: a lot of rushing around, i'm on my feet for 6 hours. i have to memorise everything to put it into the register, and i think i usually forget a lot of things. having customers eagle eye every single thing you do as i'm working in front of them. having to remember where everything is and how to use it. the pay =/.

dj: my clients are usually drunk/screaming tweens/idiots. and i somehow usually end up with one bitch a night, who rides me about this, that and everything in between. heavy lifting. new location every time, and i don't have a gps, and usually make a wrong turn every location, at least once. parking. people who just stand there and STARE at you whilst you struggle with equipment.

oh, a first. yesterday at work this guy came back and threw his food on the counter and claimed that it was yesterdays food and got all angry. it scared me, never seen that there before.
