UPDATE - WE'VE CREATED AN AWESOME LOUNGE BAR & CAFE

It's called B'artiste, located at the rear (i.e. laneway entry) of 12 Young Street Frankston. Gay-friendly of course because we own it, beautiful decor, great music, an awesome experience for everyone who's walked in so far. Open 11 - 8pm Tues to Sunday.

Servicing Frankston & the Mornington Peninsula and all others who are happy to head our way!

We're also on Facebook - become a fan

Hey

Anyone know of any gay clubs/bars around the Mornington Peninsula area - or even just nights that are held that aren't hetero. I'm a (newly) single girl who wants to head out to make some new friends but every time I head to a straight club I get hit on by boys - yik! Oh, should mention that I'm 39yo so looking for somewhere I won't feel like an old woman!!

There is one in Seaford that I once went to see a friend in a drag show. It was an older crowd.

I can't remember the name of it, it was in the industrial estate... Shed something maybe?

Sorry, not much help!

Thanks Mikee, Shed 16? I'd heard it closed down which is a shame. There are heaps of gay girls and guys down the peninsula so I'm not sure why I haven't heard of anything else! Maybe everyone's into family/couple stuff (which is all I've ever done in the past)!!

The place that use to have a dance club was next to Bay City Suana in Seaford (near Frankston) it ran on Friday and Saturday nights but for some reason it closed down many months ago.

I'm from the Mornington Peninsula but moved out of the area when I was 23 - 8 years ago. I am surprised no-one has themed a night for the GLBT community down there.. something in Mornington would be ideal..

I'm sure it would work well down in Mornington way but like all things who's putting there hands up to organize a venue like this? We've had gay nights in Seaford and Frankston before but only lasted a few months due to lack of interest.

One of the nights was at the Pint and Pickle and another night just off Nepean Hwy in Seaford (maybe 3-5 years ago)

Hey Gandolf - I know the clubs youre talking about. They were actually run by the same crew and just kept moving premises due to problems with the venue. It started at the pint and pickle and moved from there to a venue in Seaford but had to then move from there becuase of comlaints about noise and then it ended up above the titty bar right in the heart of the pubs in Frankston where it eventually closed down. I dont think it closed because of lack of interest but more becasue of the last venue wasnt very appealing - right above a strip joint with all the drunks from the Frankston pubs milling about was a bit scarey for some gay crew so they just stopped going. I still think it would work down there if they got the right venue

That's wonderful news to hear as the area has many gay/lesbian people within Frankston, Seaford, Mornington, Carrum, Mt Eliza and Nepean Hwy Frankston is perfect. I will keep my eyes open for more details. From my memory the other attempts did attract all ages and i'm sure guys over 40yo.

That's fantastic news - there's now "Lola's" held about every 3 weeks (more info can be found on Pink Sofa). Would be brilliant if Glacier had a gay night - they should market it intensively, there are so many gay and lesbian people down this way it's a serious market to hit. Partner and I will be there and so will our friends for sure!

Any more news on what's happening at Glacier? Got some flyers advertising over 28s and new DJs etc on Sat nights but haven't seen anything locally about a gay night.

wow... bizarre

stumbled across this post ... i was one of the guys that used to run the peninsula nights at the pint and pickle and in seaford..

club was called CP's... ( club poof ) and enjoyed a bit of success until we had to move from the Pint and Pickle... kind of the death knoll after that as we couldnt not find a proper venue and one of the other guys running it kept on choosing really bad venues.. :S

It was great while it lasted, and awesome to have for a while as heaps of people told us it would never work..

it only worked with the help of some very dedicated people who still own the cp's name.. unfortunately its can be hard to run a single nighter and work the week as well...

Shed 16 was great fun too... had quite a few fun nights there.. im sure some enterprising spirit will open another night down there and continue the queer frankston tradition..

Wow, that's an extraordinary post - thanks! This area is absolutely aching for a regular place that is part funky bar and part club. There are not only heaps of gay/lesbians in this area, but all of the people who hang with them. Massive market if some astute person did it right. My feeling is that something in the heart of Frankston might be a better venue than the dodgy four-corner position which seems to attract every hetero moron in the region.

So hazyinseptember why don't you give your ex-bus-partners a call and tell them to pull out the CPs logo and dust it off. Summer is coming, and everyone is raring to get out of the house!

gandolf69

Yes agreed Frankston is the place to have this new night with Summer coming.

well.. i actually live in brisbane now.. have for 7 years..

i don't even have contact details for two of the other guys, and one i definately dont want to contact ( an ex of mine ) ..

someone SHOULD consider doing a once a month party down there tho.. its not that hard to run a one nighter in that timeframe.. and i bet there are heaps more venues open to the idea now than there were 7 years ago!!!

you dont need any experience to do this.. just some good planning and good ideas..

and i do really have to give massive props to the guys who helped run the event.. ray and longjohn.. they gave a massive effort and did it for the love of the community!!

Hey Guys, just stumbled onto your thread searching for Gay Businesses on the Mornington Peninsula..

My company is currently working on "QPeninsula Magazine" an A5 glossy focused on the Mornington Peninsula's Gay population, our first issue is due out in May 09. We are still seeking Advertisers on the Pen' who run Gay/gay friendly business, aswell as locals with stories ect.

We would be happy to run a column on anything like upcoming parties or gay nights that get organised to help get the word around the peninsula.. I realise it won't help in the immediate future with our first issue out next year but keep us in mind..

Any queries can be directed to qpeninsula@gmail.com and our website is currently under construction, but I will post the address when its complete..

Hi everyone,

My name is LJ, Ray and myself ran a gay night in Frankston and Seaford Called CP's on a Thursday night.
In the end the attendance was down to around 12 people and was costing us money to keep the night going so we closed it down and never went back to it.
We did really enjoy running the night and it was a great deal of fun. The last venue was under Kittens at Frankston and we were even told by the venue owner to have everybody to use the side door as they didn't want the "Poofs" entering in the same door as their other clients. As insulting as it was we pressed on but the attitude did come through and people felt uncomfortable going there.
I hope this has explained a few things.

Thanks,

LJ.

A regular 'gay night' in our area was a great start, but we've gone one further because we felt that there was nowhere near us where we could hang out comfortably. B'artiste is owned and managed by myself and my partner and we're gay friendly all the time.

We're fussy about who we have in the place - we like fringe but we won't tolerate anti-social. That means that boys and girls if you want to sit and snuggle with your same sex partners and someone else doesn't like it, they'll be the ones who feel on the outer!

We strongly encourage members of our Pink (and Blue) community to come and check it out - we're open 11 to 8 every day except Monday. And that liquor licence is getting closer (bluddy councils take FOREVER). No hiding out in Frankston any more people, get out there!

Oh, I should mention that amongst our reading material we have a range of gay/lesbian magazines and event notifications including MCV and the Midsumma events calendar. Just so you don't need to travel to the other side of the city to find out what's on!

Laneway (rear) entrance of 12 Young Street in Frankston. Don't go around the front or you'll be confronted by Frankston's finest :) Go to the alley at back running between Beach Street and Ross Smith Ave. We're on Facebook too - look up B'artiste

I will definitely stop by B'artiste sometime. It would be awesome if you get that liquor license, as someone who lives in Seaford but only goes out in St Kilda upwards, it would be nice to have the option to have a few drinks down my neck of the woods. Have yet to go to Pint & Pickle as it doesn't appeal to me much... Is it any good?

LOL - this whole thread is yet another reminder about why I don't live in Frankston.

If you are looking for gay nightlife, why on earth would you live/go out there?!?

Not too much longer we hope for the liquor licence.........in the last stages now so fingers crossed. We have always headed inner city for a bit of fun but travelling all that way (and worse, back again at the end of the night) was getting ridiculous. We've done the Pint and Pickle a few times but to be honest the biggest problem is the deadshits that are in the main bar who think the whole 'gay' thing is a bit of a joke.

:) the thing is we want the best of both worlds - the Mornington Peninsula and surrounds, and even the larger part of Frankston central, is a pretty decent place to live. Drag a bit of gay nightlife (or gay daylife for that matter) locally and it means we don't have to pay $120 for a one way taxi trip to the city to have a good time!
