I'm pretty much a serial lurker, I enjoy reading the forums but post v little.... only if I have a strong opinion to object to something....
I didn't think LB was the type to have a clone, as he was a pretty straight forward type of poster anyway....
Lately due to all the drama that's been going on here I've been questioning staying a part of something that's so full of negative energy.... It seems that my mind may have just been made up for me with the quiet exit of these two.... Let me guess, soon to leave will be Mark_, Jay_tee, and a select few others....

*there was a furore in the past couple of days in one of the threads that i guess i missed out on reading - which is disappointing because i have all of these two cent pieces that i have nothing else to do with because the vending machine won't accept them.

*something about clones. the clones thing gets brought up a lot. i was accused of being a clone. that was kind of fun. a poster called squeaky (or something similar) spacked out about it and left samesame because of it.

*something happened to lightbearer (and maybe others) that caused an exodus. i liked him. he is humourous and intelligent. this is a major loss for our dear forums. i rely on this place to snack on throughout the day so that work doesn't cause my brain to melt and bleed out of my ears.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could fill in the gaps and give me a succinct narration of events.

some of the reason have been that the IT and maintenance of the sites/profiles has be below terrible. some stories put up have been simply thrown toward dribble, tv shows and top ten of what ever that show actually was about, just pointlessness stories not even worth throwing up.
forum control, maintenance and issue resolutions have fallen through the floor. disputes get out of hand and most people not involved in the disputes end up not bothering to continue using the forums at all

It was even more recent that a particular person who I made the mistake of befriending through another forum thought it would be fun to character assassinate me publicly because his paranoia got the better of him.

I don't know what's been going on here but I suspect I've either arrived at a bad time or hopefully a good time.

As a matter of fact the forum was pretty dark when I started frequenting the place.
For all that can be said for horror films like mordum and whatnot, I think maybe they are not that place for "chat and gossip".

Sure, then turn around and put up pics of people with their mouths sewn together saying it would be censorship.

Maybe some people just over estimate the emotional capacity of many who visit this forum. And yes while it is "hardcore" (well supposedly) to get into the blood and guts of art, murder, shitting in you wheat bix and vomitting technicolor Jackson Pollock style, is not the best for everyone.

I would say the limits and boundarys of a chat and gossip forum had been pushed for quite some time.

if he's on his side that indicates a swim bladder problem which could be an infection or just constipation.

the spinning could hopefully just be him freaking out about being on his side.

it could also be indicating pain and discomfort.

do you have any other fish - are they acting normally?

does he have any spots, sores, white fluff, redness, discolouration, mucus, raised scales, swelling or frayed/split/ragged fins?

do you have any water testing kits?
if not you can also take a sample of the water into a pet shop and they will test it for you.

if you can't see any signs of external problems, and your water is testing ok and/or your other fish are ok, then hopefully it is just constipation.

Get 1 fully defrosted pea, slip the skin off, cut it into halves or quarters depending on the size of the fish, squish it, and feed it to him.
Do this once or twice a day and remove any he hasn't eaten.

All my other fish are OK and the sick fish has no sign of any other problems which leads me to think its it swim bladder. I will try the squashed pea, I have some fresh ones so hopefully they will taste nicer for it. I get quite distressed when I look at it. I was going to euthanise it, but, just couldn't do it as it seemed OK otherwise. I wonder if fish actually suffer pain. He definately looks like he does.

failing that any antibiotic they have in tablet or powdered form - then you can make it into an edible gel.

some that would be good:

kanamycin
metronidazole
sulfamethoxazole
trimethoprim
tetracycline
minocycline
erythromicin
levamisole


if you can't find any of those, an antibacterial liquid to add to his water would still be better than nothing.

I also like Melafix. it is natural and safe for invertebrates. it's made from tea tree

The fishy ( I will call him Tilt). Remains tilted. It's been quite an urgent fish situation all weekend. Our place got hot and the tank water got dangerously close to boiling all the fishes. The guy at the aquarium tells me it will make swim bladder issues worse. He has had mashed peas and antibiotics as well as a round of chanting and candle lighting. Our Lady of the Waters better know what she is doing!

ways i know of to cool a tank in order from most expensive to cheapest (and of course then easiest to hardest):

spend $500+ to buy a chiller (dear god WHY are they so expensive?)
attempt to make a chiller out of a bar fridge
make a temporary chiller out of a pump, tubing, an esky and ice.
freeze some plastic bottles of water and float them in the tank
cool some water and drip it in
super-aircondition the room


the problem with anything except a chiller is that you don't have a thermostat and must try to monitor and adjust the temperature yourself - which can be tricky.
because as well as extreme temperatures, fish hate quick temperature fluctuations.

despite that i've noticed the floating frozen plastic water bottles seem popular with fish keepers during heat waves. if you do that you need to have a rotating system of bottles to replace every few hours as they melt.

do you want a recipe for antibiotic food?
