(Note to admins, this has been posted on the board of each major city. I hope the intent and message of hte post overrides the fact that it looks like spam)

I was just discussing same-sex marriage with Johoanna in the thread about the march in Sydney today and she made me realise that we can request time to talk to our Federal and State members of Parliament. My Federal member is Alex Hawke, so he isn't gonna budge, but I wrote to him anyway.

You know what happens next? I tell my friends to write to him and call him and request some of his time to talk about same-sex marriage.

You know what happens if he keeps saying no? We keep writing and calling.

There are so many people here that literally every of the 150 members of the House of Reps could get the message REAL quick.

Look up your Federal and State members and call them or email them. Ask for them to spend time with you discussing same-sex marriage.

Here is what I wrote to my member.

Hello Sir, my name is Jarrod Lorch and I am writing to you now to request a moment of your time in person.

I would like to discuss the issue of same-sex marriage with you. From what I know of you, you are against same-sex marriage, this is fine however I would actually like to discuss the issue with you.

I will almost certainly not change your mind, and you will definitely not change my mind but what harm can an exchange of views do?

I may not be someone you target for votes, and you may think that due to my sexuality that you wouldn't be someone that I would vote for, but politically I am very open minded and same-sex marriage views aren't a deal breaker/maker for me.

Essentially, my voice in the Lower House is you, and I believe in the system.
I just ask that you please give me some time to discuss this with you, as it is a very important issue to me and many people I know that live in the electorate of Mitchell.

I think there can be nothing worse than not listening to criticism or opposing views, so I trust that you will at least grant me some time to not only tell you how I feel, but also tell me how you feel. That is all.

It's that simple people. It took me FIVE MINUTES.

Its important to let yr local MP (whatever their party) that there are other views out in the electorate than religious fanatics who hate Gays. I approached my local Liberal and was pleasantly surprised, although they said there was a lot of opposition to Gay marriage in his party.

Yeah exactly. Poll numbers don't mean a thing if no one is making any noise.
