I just tried to go to the USA version of expedia and it automatically redirected to Australia, it never did that in the past. I tried many times and it kept on doing it. So I turned on my privacy/proxy blocker and it still kept on doing it.

So I wont be using expedia anymore as the Aussie version of the website was always substantially more expensive for exactly the same thing as was on the USA website.

there's an option on the top bar which says "switch to US"
failing that, there's travelocity.com which gives you choice of country also.

itunes does that as well. hell, they do it with everything cos they know aussies pay more for everything

it's prob based on ur ip address, so it will be rather difficult to fool the system without resorting to 1337 hax

when booking flights i usually just go directly to the airlines's websites after checking the cheapest fares on travelocity/expedia.

They must of removed that, cause there is no such option at the top. Only at the bottom of the page there a flag symbols.

Funny enough it is only the USA site that redirects to Australia. I have tried every other country and it works fine.

Quite clearly the OZ site:

http://www.expedia.com.au/default.aspx?rfrr=Redirect.From.www.expedia.com

Everytime I click the US Flag or type in expedia.com it does the above.

Nope, at the very top is 'Book your travel' and the stupid ad box with the woman dancing, absolutely nothing above that as on mine that is the top of the page. I give up and will just use firefox.

Well you're pretty cute mate, so I doubt you'd have trouble finding a bed to share with some hottie whilst your travelling. That would reduce the costs greatly! :)

If you live like a Black Pimp, you'll die like a Black Pimp.

Mr Ash might sleep with you but I don't want to pay for your Centrelink payment.

whatever happened to proper budgeting and planning? it's not impossible to travel while young and still retire without resorting to government funds

ok try clearing your cache and history. using a freshly cleared browser, when you get redirected to the AU site, there is a black strip on the topmost part and is bold white text says:

Welcome to Expedia.com.au, Australia's best site for travel deals. Stay here or continue to the U.S. site at Expedia.com »

beside it is a close X button. maybe you accidentally closed it?

you can also try a workaround redirect link from AU to US >> http://www.expedia.com/default.asp?ipsc=1&rfrr=Header.POSRedirect.www.expedia.com.au

I heard on the radio that Google are currently being investigate for something along the lines of directing internet traffic.

Although with all the intrusive software you would think this kind of thing would not be illegal, but I guess the internet is bigger than Google too..must be some big players on the world wide web these days.

I find "Dogpile" stays true to the US of A, but has a crap image search, so I mostly use Google.

Actually no it did it too, I guess since our dollar is worth as much as USA dollar certain companies might lose out.

Well there will be no pension when I will be allowed to retire at the age of 107, so I intend to actually travel now.

I do not understand the mentality of spending all your money so you can say you own the box you live in. I do not want to own a box, I want to actually live.
