View Full Version : How can I politely say, 'Let's stick it to the Gold Coast City Council'

The background to this is that the Adult X store located at 2480 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach QLD was informed I believe a few months ago by the GCCC that their SOP facility was not registered and that it would have to cease operating immediately.
The owners I believe then immediately lodged an application with the GCCC to run a SOP facility on the premises and it appears that their application has been dragged out in the processing chain.
Several times I have enquired at the business as to the timing of receiving the expected decision from the GCCC, only to be informed by the staff that the application has been delayed in the system yet again.
Unfortunately the latest update is not good news. I called into the premises yesterday to enquire if the GCCC has made a final determination as to the suitability of the premises as a SOP venue and I was informed by a staff member on duty that a preliminary decision has been received by the owners and it was not pleasant reading at all.
From what I was told it appears that the GCCC intends to deny the application on 5 grounds.
Unfortunately I was not able to glean any further details save that a couple of points seem to relate to lack of sufficient car parking in the area (it is on the Gold Coast Highway in a business strip — opposite side of the side street is a Tanning Salon) and that there is no call for an extra facility as this to be provided in the area. To me both are laughable as objections.
(The email address for the establishment is admin@adultx.com.au should you wish to find out more, or to seek clarification of what I am posting).
Personally, I would love to see the GCCC hit with as many emails as possible over this as I believe that the decision is not being made in the interests of the public in general, as the facilities in question are very clean, neat and tidy and extremely well supervised. To me they are at least two stars above any rating that could be given for The Den which is just down the road on the other side of the Gold Coast Highway and operates a SOP facility in their establishment.

If you are like me and are not happy with what appears to be happening then please let the GCCC know your thoughts.
Send them an email at the link below!

The following has been sent as an email to the Gold Coast Bulletin.
NOT FOR PUBLICATION!
The following is a post that was placed earlier today on the 'Australian' page of the Same Same Organisation. A copy of the post has also been sent to the GCCC. I thought that you may like to take up the matter with the owners of the business in question.

I'd be curious to know what the other three reasons are that it was denied.

A friend told me the Den is behind some of it??
Now that you mention it, that would not surprise me in the least.
I believe that the owner/s of The Den are quite influential in the Adult industry in Australia and since their establishment is less than 500 metres down the road they could certainly benefit from a 'No Go' decision by the GCCC.

The following is a copy of part of the reply that I received from the business Adult X in response to the email that I sent them yesterday informing them of the contents of my emails to both the GCCC and the Gold Coast Bulletin.
'Hey there, look im really sorry but the information that you have isn't quite correct, council is stil yet to make a final decision, this decision will be voted on by council.
The five points you speak of are what the planning department has come up with to deny the
application, however council still need to vote on that information, which may yet be voted down.
Also note that this is not a SOP application, it's an application for 'Indoor Recreation''.
On receipt of the above I then sent a reply email to them, and a copy of that follows:
'Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to my note.
Would you be willing to share the concerns of the Planning Dept as a number of folk have enquired of me as to what the five points are about.
I must admit that as a lay person I find it hard to separate how the 'Indoor Recreation' differs from the services that was previously provided for at your establishment, unless of course you were planning to reduce those services.
As far as the Gold Coast Bulletin goes I am not buying into that at all. I just thought that it was a news item worthy of greater comment, especially if the feedback is tending to be on the 'No Go' side.
I would also mention that a former editor of the Queensland arm of the 'Same Same' internet group is very interested in writing an article on the outcome of your Planning Permit, as he is fully aware of the antics that ........ can get up too.
As a further aside, one person has also put it to me that perhaps even the owners of The Den could be pushing for a 'No Go' decision by the GCCC. A prospect that I find could have some ring of truth to it.
Again thank you for taking the time to reply.
Regards'
So now we just have to continue to wait!!

Well if this is the case then its not a homophobic decision on the part of the council just a case of nepotism.. not that the latter is a better situation but in many cases that's how the government works. I scratch your back you scratch mine.
