I'm not sure if I should be offended or delighted that gay and lesbian liaison is seen as soft . . .

Ashby, along with those others who face potential charges strike me as those typical straight men who dislike women and hate gays, or anything that makes them actually think. It's clear that they can't possibly comprehend the fact that there is a woman in power, and she's popular, and that she's actually doing a great job.
Cops in general have no idea when it comes to the G+L community. We are lucky that we have the liaison officers to help us understand our rights within the law, and to help the police to understand us better so that they can go about catching real criminals... like gay bashers

It is about time some one had the guts to stand up to Paul Mullet. If he is not a thug his personal style makes him appear like one. As a staunch unionist of thirty years standing he is a blot on the reputation of all honest union members. We got rid of Norm Gallagher now it is time to examine the performance of Paul Mullet and to rid the union movement of these misogynistic dynosores.

totally agree with all previous comments on this thread and add:
1. The offical police GLLO website only lists 27 people involved in the role - where Ashby gets 60 from is beyond me.
2. Mullett has used the issue of the trans police officer (now known to be Constable Bernice Canty) as a power play - so much for caring for his members first and foremost! Mullett publicly refused to back lesbians' right to use women's toilets last year - honestly!
3. Vic police has an atrocious record on Equal Opportunity/dicrimination re sexism. Obviously that's not CC Nixon's fault (!) - must be Mullett and Ashby's. If they can't deal with women, they don't have much hope on GLIBT (or youth or indigenous for that matter).

There's one thing that Ashby and Mullet do exceptionally well, and that is manipulate the media and public opinion through devicive issues. He must have learned that from John Howard.
All you have to say is 'Gay' or 'Single mothers' and the majority mob revert back into monkeys throwing poo.
Luckily after too many terms with Bush and Howard, it seems the public have gotten a bit wiser and decided to think for themselves a bit more... or is that what i just keep telling myself so that I don't lose hope?
