I'm holding back Hazy because I'm enjoying reading everyone else's comments.
So before I step in any further, any other interpretations?

They're two Humming Birds.
Obviously they're used in recognition of the fact that Humming Birds are the only avian species to successfully lobby for access to same sex marriage rights in Brazil, something that even Spoonbills have yet to achieve.
This goes further to highlight the homophobic policies of the Howard government, as if we didn't know already!

2 birds freed from the cage of oppression, free to fly, and mate, just not very likely to lay fertilised eggs????

my thoughts - same same in thailand means equal. and the birds - symbolic of freedom, of flight, of rising up - and of course, beauty. and then the fact that they cross over each other, it's a union of sorts... a bridge between gay and straight? perhaps. then again, that might be too literal. perhaps it's multilayered, i am sure there are many ways to interpret the birds - and i think that's the beauty of it.
a stroke of genius!

Ok time to weigh in on this one. The actual answer is
e) All of the above
And I'm not just saying that to appease everyone. When designing the logo we went through literally dozens of concepts with the designer, Plunge - www.plunge.com.au if anyone is interested, an amazing design group - and there was something about the birds that really stood out.
Same Same is a community site and the way birds congregrate and flock together is really unique. Zakalwe is correct is saying they are hummingbirds, and traditionally hummingbirds represent people being close (I'm not going to say love here, because that's naff, but there's an element of the birds being close to each other and interacting).
Same Same itself means lots of different things, we all share some of the "same same" things deep down (ie, our sexuality), but we're all very different in expressing that. By having the "same" bird, but with two different colours it goes some way in conveying that idea.
So that's the story behind the logo: it is intentionally vague and open to interpretation, and that's exactly why we love it!
