While I think GQ meant no intentional harm, it is obviously not acceptable or professional and feeds the stereotype that we are all just crazed sex addicts that can't keep our hands to ourselves

I don't think alot of thought went into that question absolutely. It was probably just a light-hearted thing but a bit unprofessional.

Interesting given the editor of GQ Australia is a (great) gay guy.

yeah, but the editor didnt ask the question directly. he just allowed it to go to print/didnt censor it

Those sort of throw-away questions get asked all the time. And it's only GQ, not the New Yorker.
I think Mr Black is a little thin-skinned about media attention since that sex video of his was leaked a few years back (and the problem then wasn't so much the video but that he and his partner were barebacking).

And therefore he is responsible.
I do not know if I think this question was/is homophobic. This to me is always about intent. Why did they feel compelled to ask Lautner this question? How was the question delivered? Was a certain answer " expected" and so forth. But obviously this man has taken offence. However- it's GQ and I'm offended just seeing this awful publication wasting paper. Surely it can just go online now. I mean. Who buys it?
This brings me to another point.
Gay men- can be homophobic. One needs only read the profiles on Grindr to see that internalised homophobia is very much alive and well.

im not saying he's not. im saying he was possibly being a lazy, feet-up-on-the-desk fucker that day, and his job didnt get done properly

One of my best friends is the editor of a very prominent publication. She hates journalists and says they write like infants.

Of course the question was homophobic. I am pretty sure that if it were a straight female actress they wouldn't have asked her whether the people she had dinner with tried to fuck her afterwards.

Yes, in my opinion the question shouldn't have been asked. They were 3 industry professionals meeting up, would it have been asked if Gus Van Sant and Dustin Lance Black were straight? I don't think so!

The GQ magazine is owned by News limited, so what do people really expect from a publication from that homophobic company.

I think that's a simplistic assumption. It's like me assuming you are 12 years old and like the beach.
The Australian Newpaper, The Daily Telegraph, The Herald Sun, The GQ Magazine - its all owned by the same people. Sure there is lots of gay friendly people who work for news limited, but its the "gate keepers" at the top of the ladder which are the problem. So i'll say it again what do people really expect from an media outlet that is owned by news limited.
