I wouldn't go as far as saying i'm addicted to it, but I like it a lot. I watch all sorts.. straight, gay, lesbian, fetishwear, everything except maybe old people. I have never understood why society in general considers it so negative. Sure some of the people in the porn industry may have issues, were abused etc. but then a lot of them are well adjusted, intelligent people too. As for exploitation, it depends on the viewer. It can be seen as degrading, but then, -anything- can be seen as degrading. Pop stars using sex appeal can be seen as being exploited by record companies. People are objectified and stereotyped in all forms of media - music videos, movies.. I think as long as people have a mature attitude about it there's no problem. There is only a problem when people use it to feed misogyny or their sexual hangups, but that is a problem on the viewer's side, not the porn itself.

Actually now that I think about it, Australians don't really have a huge problem with porn. You can buy it easily from local sex shops. Still, it's not something you'd admit to co-workers or family members..

I have very catholic tastes when it comes to porn. I reckon I spend between six to sixteen hours a day watching it... I go through a lot of Kleenex :o

I find it comedic. Its so ridiculous and fake with such bad acting etc the i just can't take it seriously. The close ups make me cringe as I don't want to see someones arsehole up that close. It makes me feel a bit nauseous too. Hence the reason I rarely watch it anymore.

The ONES whom consider it 'negative' are the ones being BRAINWASHED by religious organisations that are in fact using their words to manipulate these sad individuals into their misguided beliefs (hello Catholic church etc !!!). You know - those organisations that tell YOU how to lead your life, but they of course do something completely different !!

Let's break down pornography - it is simply SEX. omg... he didn't say that rude word ?? S E X

Everyone does it - or would like to do it (just some self advertising here :) !!)

Sure some of the people in the porn industry may have issues, were abused etc. but then a lot of them are well adjusted, intelligent people too. IMO - this is a religious excuse !!! I'm sure that there are bankers whom probably were 'abused' as well at some high heeled private boys school :)

I was in Vegas years ago - and stumbled upon the Adult Industry Convention - a MASSIVE conference discussing porn - it is BIG BUSINESS !!! I'm sure that those people were well adjusted knowing that you and I like porn :)

As for exploitation, it depends on the viewer. It can be seen as degrading, but then, -anything- can be seen as degrading. I wonder if this is the case for gay porn ??

HELLO - IT'S STILL A BANNED ITEM in the States (and not the US kind). X rated material is only available for sale in the Terrorities (ACT / NT). That sex shops in the States are selling X rated items isn't a sign that it its tolerated - more that the Police have better things to do - or that Fred Nile hasn't had an item gone missing in the post ('those bastards in the ACT haven't sent my lastest porn DVD - they'll pay !!!")

Wiki summing it up :

In Australia, X-rated is a legal term. The Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC), a government institution, issues ratings for all movies and television shows sold or aired. Movies showing explicit, non-simulated sex are rated "X". "X" rated movies are not permitted to be sold in most states, but possession of such movies is legal in the Australian Capital Territory; the constitution forbids restraint in goods and trade between the states, so they are available in all states by mail order. An attempt to change the classification ratings such that some of the material in the "X" category would be banned and the remainder would be available under the new category "NVE" (an abbreviation for Non-Violent Erotica), failed in the Senate, partly due to the belief of some senators that the new categories were less restrictive than the old.

The proposed category of NVE held tighter restrictions of content in sexually explicit films. Although the new rating was rejected, all states and territories agreed in a review of the OFLC's guidelines to introduce the new, tighter content restrictions in the "X" category. The new guidelines make unambiguous statements relating to fetish and violence in this category. "Fetishes such as body piercing, application of substances such as candle wax, 'golden showers', bondage, spanking and fisting are not permitted" and "No depiction of violence...is allowed in the category".[4] If such content is in a film, particularly violence in a plot development context (i.e. separate from kids violence), it is often edited out prior to submission to the OFLC to avoid being "Refused Classification" (effectively banning the film).

Sorry - but we still have f****wits in State and Federal Governments that are more interested in controlling what we can see and do. If you want to see a fucked up State - check out South Australia and it's rules on displaying R Rated material !!

No wonder thats where the Gamer's party started up. Same thing applies to Games over the MA rating. It's borderline retarded how prudish our country can be.

Oh and yeah, Masturbation is a healthy thing and if porn encourages it then so be it. I do it all the time and I'm still standing so I see no problem with it.
