A friend of mine works in a Sydney hospital as a nurse and said that she has a patient, who is transgender (think the "old" term was "pre-op transsexual") over the age of 70yrs, who after having a stroke can no longer look after herself. Of course, options were discussed with the patient (she's still hoping her mobility will improve in future to be able to go home) and now that she is "medically stable", they are looking into respite options in the community. I believe, the Gender Centre was contacted to give input. They apparently couldnt offer much help (at the present time). It started me wondering, it doesn't bear thinking about, sometime in the future, being gay or lesbian & ending up in a nursing home. But what about the "trans/intersex population? Has anyone thought that far ahead? What do you think?

I hope, fingers crossed, having lived as a woman; or a man if you so decide, for a long period of time; then the trans aspect wouldn't come into it; apart from hormones or for M2F, dilation... if it still works that is :-/

Whoa Bigglebstud, theres that offensive word again. "Tranny". A tranny in an object, not a human being.
You are degrading women with gender dysporia by reducing them from a woman with a legitimate medical condition to an object, that is a "tranny".
I have noticed that if you try to type in the word Nigg.. to describe African Americans, the site blocks it, and yet it doesn't block the use of this equally offensive term that degrades women with gender dysphoria to a mere object.
As a protest I'm going to delete my account from this site and I'm never going to visit this site again.
If the site admin. condones the reducing of women to objects then this site is worth nothing, and you can all go and get fucked.
Goodbye.

I agree, I don't like that word either, short or long version. From my experience there is a fetish aspect, label or stereotype applied :-(

Yes, it's offensive. I think that's why there were no replies for a looooong time. It's why I didn't say anything.

Yes, that word has a number of varieties and meanings. For the most of us, we're transgendered. Likening us to other types, when we have often endured much loss, sacrifice, medical intervention and so on, is well, pretty low.
