Give yourself plenty of time for a Visa. You can come via turist Visa and find employment if you like and then apply for a work Visa. You have to be a resident of Australia for at least two years consecutively or 5 years on and off with a total of 2 years total time in Australia before applying for immigration residency.

You could also find a job in Australia while you're still in the U.S. which worked for me.
I'm waiting for my visa application, which for me should take 4 to 6 weeks, and hopefully I can make the move in July.
My visa is being sponsored and having the help and support from the company has been enormously useful.
