I found myself running to make the 7:30 viewing @ the Verona in Paddo... all sweaty and ready to laugh, cry and be moved. Besides Boogie Nights, Shortbus superbly portrays pornography and a poignant moving picture into one. The porn wasn't dirty, in fact it added a new dimension to film noir- making it THAT much more enjoyable! Avant-garde in style and genre, James Cameron Mitchell shows New York City in all its glory – just being apart of it is so inspiring. I also liked how they show sex being sensual with ample communication - even when the USA National anthem was patriotically sang into a cute boy's asshole!

i don't think explicit sex equals pornography... i think they are quite different things, in very different leagues. i hope this film goes on to be a massive cult title. it deserves it. it is not only subversive in its content, but also in the way it was made.

we need more visionaries like john cameron mitchell.

Jody Ekert and I shared this film at the Dendy Newtown last year. She has since lent me her copy of the DVD to watch again and again. She is lucky she ever got it back. I love it - it makes me want to move to New York and be more outrageous than I have ever allowed myself to imagine. Heres to a great film and the fabulous alter-egos in all of us.
