Ok so I rarely hit Oxford st or go out at all for that matter(when I do I end up there) but just out of curiousity is there anywhere that actually plays decent music?

Seems to be a resounding no!

I mean I generally end up at Palms because everywhere else is just obnoxious bass beats and a remarkable lack of lyricism, but even that was shitting me to tears with its lack of Debbie Harry and its Kylie Overkill.

I managed to catch the Rock thing they had going at the flinders a couple of times but it was few and far between and ended up dying anyhow.

When I lived in Melbourne and was in sexual/gender purgatory they had Q&A which was awesome, and I used to hang at Aaliyah with my lesbian housemate which was half decent too, and barring the pretentious “seen to be scene” vibe, 77 used to at least have some pretty good music.

I mean I’m sure I’m coming off as a whiny bitch but honestly I don’t understand how people can go do the same thing every weekend on the strip and not get sick of it(my rationalization is that there are more than likely drugs involved)

I mean I hear a lot of people talking about how awesome stonewall is but I’ve only been there three times now and every time I’ve found it offensive to the state of nausea.

Can someone help me please? Otherwise I think I’m just going to give up on Australia for somewhere to have a good time.

Alternatively does anyone know any D.J.s that play music other than techno/electronica, I’d be willing to find a space and also have a lot of friend who are of all Gender identities that would frequent such a place.

I don’t mean to poo poo, but this is really not my thing and I’d like to find places and people that share my idea of fun, it’s not a lot to ask is it?

Variety is the spice of life but there doesn’t seem to be that much going around these days.

Basically this video is summing up my thoughts and feelings

my god weathervain you and me should start a party, if only. I totally agree about stonewall , the place is a shithole and naueates me too. Im sure there are thousands like us that are completely over the the scene and its blandness.

That's why the venues are dying cause they keep serving up the same old shit music every week. So old dj's playing the same old kylie cd's in their collections. The gay crowds stop going to the venues, so they then let in the straights. And I am with you, what do peoples see in Stonewall - I have never liked it? The place is rank - maybe it's the Drag shows that attract the crowds. Hopefully the Imperial (if and when it opens) may be a bit different - but don't hold your breathe. Melbourne has a far better choice in music. Maybe it's time to move there?

Yay I was kind of going out on a limb with that post, it could have gotten really ugly.

I'm currently scanning venues, and trying to find or train DJ's to do something(I'd do it myself but I just like to dance too much lol)

want something with a similar room layout to Palms(dance floor central and tables on the outskirts) but upstairs and without the massive support columns.

As I stated it would be queer tolerant but not exclusive, I think alot of the problem with the gay venues and the reason they get tired and stale is because they become secular little microverses where the sun shines out of their own ass.

I'm mainly looking to create my own ideal place to hang out but if it works for me I'll let you know how I did it step by step and you should feel free to do the same with the type of vibe you are after.

I think it is possibly time to rethink the scene and incorporate friendly's into it, it may help to alleviate some of the "us and them" issues we are currently having on Oxford st with violence.

People fear what they don't understand and that fear turns to hatred, if we can create a place of tolerance and not exclusivity I think we'd be much better off.

OH and Marly there will be pass outs and coat check, this I guarantee

Agreed. And sometimes they don't have any DJ at ALL!!!! CD on repeat drives me up the freaking wall!

I see Stonewall as the "introduction" Bar for new gays to the scene. Usually the place is packed with 18-24 year olds. And very rarely you would find someone decent enough to actually talk to.

Stonewall is kinda exciting when you have never been out or to a gay bar before. For the rest of us....................been there done that.

There used to be a club on the GC called Mansions, they used to have ok sets...but what they would do was record the DJ set on the Saturday night, then play it back ever now and then on a Friday...really really peeved me when I went there and they played the same set two weeks running....poor, really poor

BTW...it like most of my clubbing was straight :P

If I ever win the Lotto I will open a new Gay club with some decent Trance & Electro Music. Import DJ'S from Ibiza and party all weekend!!!!!
