A friend of mine is trying to helping a little girl "Make A Wish" this is an email she sent at work -

"Hi,

As some of you already know, I volunteer for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Currently, we are trying to fulfill a wish for Shauntelle, who has been sick for a while. You may have already read about her in Woman's Day, as they ran an article on her.

Shauntelle's wish is to celebrate her 18th birthday on New Year's Eve in the city with her family and friends so that she can witness the NYE fireworks for the first time. Every teenager's 18th birthday is a special occasion, but for Shauntelle it is even more so because she has struggled with her illness since she was 14 and has defied many odds to make it this far.

Part of the challenge in fulfilling this has been locating an appropriate venue for night. At this stage, we have exhausted all our contacts, which is why I am appealing to you. If you know of anyone who may be willing to help out with a location for NYE I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know. I know it's a big ask and NYE is hectic at the best of times but this really is our last resort and we would dearly like to make Shauntelle's wish come true as she is an exceptionally brave girl.

Make-A-Wish in actively involved in promoting unique wishes such as this and we will do all we can to ensure that the venue involved gets the appropriate recognition for their part.

Please let me know if you can think of anyone who can help, even if it is a long shot. It's better than nothing.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks

Linda"

If anyone can help can they reply to this thread?

Is this real or one of those urban legends? Have you had any luck?

This might be a VERY long shot but...
Perhaps contact the DEPT of EDUCATION (or the school direct) about accessing the School Hall of one of the near by schools on the North shore side of the Harbour.

hey - another long shot - but every year the harbour party is held at the rocks and is hosted by channel 7. 2 options here - one is you could approach 7 and see if they will assist in granting the wish (most big companies will support make a wish) or secondly - approach the hyatt at the rocks or the restaurants (doyles, wildfire etc) and see if they will jump on board.
One last option is approaching either Captain Cook Cruises or Majestic Cruises who have boats out on the harbour and see if they will get on board.

Good Luck
