Hi Adelaideans (is that what I call you???)

My boyf and I are coming to Adelaide next month for a weekend getaway and want to know where is the best place to go out? What are the best nights? Are the people nice? What's the music like? Questions, questions, questions. Any help?

You're not exactly spoilt for choice when you come to adelaide.
we only have one gay club - the mars bar on gouger st. As for the music there - see my earlier post - music at mars - it sums it up pretty well.
people there are quite nice - it is a very, very mixed crowd - absolutely everyone goes there because that is the only place to go.
I would consider it to be most like a cross between the exchange and the peel in melb.

apparently the hampshire hotel on grote st (across the road from the central markets was gay, then went straight and it now gay-friendly. Im not sure - havent been there for years - anyone else?

our only gay pub - the ed shut down a few months ago.

grab a copy of blaze newspaper - the local gay mag if you want to know whats on - you can get that wherever you would pibk up street press.

There are good straight clubs - if you have been to onelove in syd or melb - we have it here every friday at electric circus - great fun - very friendly crowd - much better music than mars - the venue is hard to find if you're from out of town though -ask a local when you get here.
if you like alternative music and emos try shotz on pirie st - very gay friendly - a bit trashy though.

dont come to adelaide if you purely want a clubbing/partying holiday. I think you will be disappointed.

An observation about Mars, maybe it needs restrictions like the Peel. I feel the balance is tipping in the way of straight patrons. Last night, it took over an hour of lining up to enter.
Although for the large number of people in there, it didn't take long to get service from the bar.
I did luv one of the barmen's tee shirts, in big letters, "NOBODY KNOWS I AM GAY". That was a pretty good top.

Cheers,
Dion.
