Foriegn Food - Best & Worst

As I'm sat here scoffing my face with $30 worth of chocolate and crisps from back home in the Uk, it got me thinking why is Aussie chocolate so rubbish....

You lot seem a well travelled bunch and I'm guessing you've all eaten stuff that you liked & didn't like, stuff that you loved & wished you could marry & stuff that you think should have been burnt at the stake (pardon the pun).

So let's hear it......

One of my fave things was a burger from In N Out in San Francisco, it was the best burger I have ever had in my life, it kicked the ass off everything!! Was Yum!!

the worst, i'm sorry but has to be Australian Chocolate, stuff from Nestle isn't so bad but your Cadburys stuff is so wrong.

Oh and P.s Cadburys IS NOT AUSTRALIAN!!!!!!

Where to start? San Francisco burritos, holy fuck. Now that's some good eating. Pretty much most Mexican and Mexican-inspired food in the States rocks a million times over the crap we get here. Also Cool Whip. Easy Cheese on Ritz crackers. Stroopwafels from Holland. Butterfinger candy bars. Buffalo chicken. Yum to the yum. There's more..

hmmm... i remember fried bat on a stick in shanghai. that was alarming. that def. tops the worst.

but then the best - [does booze count? if so, there's too many to list.]

shanghai was a martini and dumpling fest. if you go to glamour bar try the strawberry cream martini. i can still taste it. any of the dumplings i had in china were amazing. in budapest, there was a tiny little eatery where my hungo lover took me - we ate goulash. it was out of this world. in new york i ate anything chocolate that had peanuts in it. too good!

Some of the best things I have eaten include Pork Lechon in the Philippines, Takoyaki in Japan and even this roast chicken with baguette we had in Paris when I was a little kid!

Worst Things I have eaten include Natto (that stuff is just foul...), bittermelon, vegemite and chicken feet (I can't get over the texture...)

Bittermelon is indeed much maligned. Unfortunately preparation is often inconsistent. It should first be blanched to remove the excess bitterness, then sautéed with a black bean sauce, hopefully freshly prepared.

A whole suckling is indeed off-putting. However I tried Sean Connolly's version in Auckland: it was simply sensational -- by a long shot the best pork I have ever had. Not sure he'll do the same in Sydney though...

The list includes the most well known "acquired taste" foods. For instance, few children even in their native cultures will take to natto and bittermelon...however many adults, though by no means all, will love these. We can add to the list Durian and caviar.

when I was young I seem to remember Mum and Dad doing the crumbed brains thing. Apparently they are tasty that way but not a chance.

I did cook myself a batch of lamb kidneys today :) old recipe where they are casseroled and you would not know. A friend once recoiled but was staying with and one day said give me a teaspoon to try and after that couldnt stop eating them.

I have to stay of the chocolate/fried for awhile. I just cant get myself under 67kg. I want to be on about 64kg. New scales at gym so either the old ones lied or these new ones are out.
