Ok because I'm bored and because Tim D likes Polls, I've decided to run my first Poll.
it's a basic question so pardon me for not being original!

Which city is Better - Melbourne Or Sydney?

I like Melbourne, it's very easy on the eye and all very pleasent and green etc etc
But I do LOVE Sydney. I love the buzz and I love the rush of it.

But what do you think, give reasons for your choice as well. What do you like/hate about Sydney/Melbourne

Ha ha I love this topic!

Melbourne is great to visit, but I fear it would be too small to live in. Sydney is bold and brash and harsh and glitzy, and that's why I love it.

But I guess I might be a little biased.

Melbourne is easily the better of the 2. It has a gay scene that is funky and friendly and predominantly g-free. And the boys are much hotter and less pretentious. It's definitely not too small to live in. Tim, why do you love a harsh city?

I think I love Sydney because there is something very fast-paced, go go go about it all. It's like it swallows you up and takes you for a ride.

I don't see much point in living somewhere that's "nice" or "relaxing", I want a frantic, no holes barred kinda city. That's why I love New York as well, it's like Sydney x 1000 (and New York is like Melbourne x 1,000,000 ha)

I didn't actually say I didn't like Sydney though. I actually do, simply prefer Melbourne over Sydney, but Sydney is quietly swaying me round.

I loved Sydney the first time i went there and i love it again every time i visit. I wasn't impressed with Melbourne the first time i came here and it took a year of living here till i started discovering things i liked about the place. I think they're both cool for different reasons. Sydney has just the instant grab of awesome, nowhere in Australia comes close. Melbourne has kind of a hip underground, but you need to be part of the in crowd to get it.

sydney is a very dramatic city. you really do need to be rich to enjoy all that it has to offer... unfortunately to an extent it's been overtaken by yuppification. boring couples with prams have kicked out the artists and now it's all about gucci sunglasses and real estate.

i liked sydney when it was rougher, not trying as hard... when you could find a bit of grunge and sleaze... and dirt...

melbourne is pretty switched on creatively. they know that it's more about substance over style - although it has both in spades. melbournites have good reason to be smug. it's less OBVIOUS - but that's what's so great about it. and it doesn't have the harbour or the beaches but it has the gardens and laneways.

sydney's a habit i just can't quit. in amongst all of the tackiness, is an unmistakable charm. it's HOME. and so many of the people i LOVE are here.

Sydney beats Melbourne (even if we did drop down a couple....)
