is it because we don't have the population?
is it because were just all sour bitchy queens in Brisbane?
or is it just we are boring?

Why does the Brisbane forum suck?
Because you're not here often enough Hazy :P

hahaha.. if you only knew the amount of time i spend trolling these forums.. :)
but thanks for the kind words..
it just seems that brisbane has less to say on these forums, and when we do it ends in some bitchy slagging match .. which is weird because in person were a very friendly queer city

i think its because ther is no community up here

the lack of community and togetherness and realisically, most of the people up here simply hate themselves & each other. Its kinda lame.

i always found it easy to meet people in brisbane..
and i don't feel brisbane is any more clicky than say, melbourne..
people flock out for events like gayday and pride fair day.. so why is our community lacking in strength?

I think ppl are friendly on the surface but it is hard to get any depth in a friendship up here. I am sure I could get into a group if I went out every weekend but I just dont have time. I have finally met a couple of great people but I have lived here for 2.5 years. Sydney is much more open.

If you think there's no community in Brisbane, then the Gold Coast is devoid of all non-scene gay life. I just want to meet guys somewhere other than MPs (worst gay bar in the world - and the Gold Coast's only) or online.
I'm going to stop whining now :P

I think that there's no activity on here because people don't know about the site... or, rephrase - i had never heard of it until i stumbled on it tonight haha... but hello to the brisbane/QLD crew on here!

hmmm... i refuse to believe queensland has nothing to say! and as for negativity etc., i think every gay community has that. what can you do? you just have to look for the positives and try to move forward.
as you can all imagine it's been a pretty busy two years getting samesame established in sydney and melbourne. rome wasn't built in a day. and this year (and of course next year too and beyond) we're making it our mission to get samesame known around the rest of australia, particularly in queensland.
these things take time, we want people to discover samesame as they need us, not have it shoved down their throats. it's gotta be organic. but i look forward to getting to know everyone up in brissy and really kicking off this part of the site (forums included!)
so drop me a line and say hello if you've got any ideas, comments...

Hey Thrawn :)
I didn't realise SameSame was so young, because it seems so well established. I'm looking forward to seeing it expand. I've already contacted some friends to let them know about it.
Hopefully we can get a bit more action on the QLD forum, and it would be nice to see something happen on the Gold Coast!

Yeah I'm amazed really. Considering how packed the gay nightclubs are on weekends, and the popularity of pride and Big Gay Day, I just think people here prefer to get out and meet people rather than join a virtual community. The only SameSame advertising i usually see is on the Fluffy advertisements in Q-News. Who is the QLD SameSame advertising executive!? :P

i dunno..
just go check the queensland room in gaydar chat.. usually 200+ people on ..
maybe qld gays are all about the hook up and less about a community?

From the conversations that I've had with one of the older doctors I work with, he seems to think that there is less of a community in general these days. I guess in areas with a higher population you'll get more diversity. I've found a Brisbane based group, but not much on the coast.

Ugh, is it just me or does Brisbane seem to be lacking in culture more and more each day. It's rather depressing.

brisbane does tend to lack culture on the surface... but we have an awesome underground!
its really just about knowing where to look for it..

maybe the scopeof this website is too big to encompass brisbane??
so cause it's not in people's faces, they just don't bother and use myspace insted?

i think gaydar tends to be the place for brisbanians..
does anyone still use myspace ? ;)

My boyfriend is a QLDer, he took me to Brisbane for our two year and I found that people were generally cheerful, that was until they found out I was from Sydney (apparently I am a Mexican).
Other than that, I find it has all the right places for a community feel .. I agree with Christian, most gay places have a bitchy tendency but I give Brisbane the thumbs up .. minus the stinking heat!

This thread was a very interesting read... following everyone comments.
As some of the longer standing members (was going to say older members, but that has other means too...lol) will testify it has only been recently that SameSame has started to regularly have events.
I am putting it out there to those people on the side, to come join us and see what a site like this is capable of putting back into the community.
Individually reading these posts in your homes does not make us a community.
Community is getting out and giving back, expecting nothing in return, good old fashioned values....
SameSame is growing and will continue to grow, but the real emphasis is getting real people together at events and parties, to understand that the new gay community will take time to form, and remember our Gay Community has been gutted mainly by two events that almost happened at the same time.
One reason is alot of the middled aged guys are no longer with us, victoms of the first wave of HIV infections, in the 80's, a very sad time for many of us who can remember. It has been traditionally these guys in the community in a time past when people were not so self aborbed, self centred that the elders of the community helped the younger through the difficult early years.
The second major event has been the advent of the Internet. Years ago to find someone.....yes...you guessed it.... you actually had to walk out your door...strange concept to some I know but true.
But now we have mastered this new communication medium, we can use it to bring back what has been lost...our humanity....
Your comments,
Sean
