Muriel's Wedding was on telly last night, and only served to remind me how much of a brilliant film it was! Almost even line was quotable.

I only got the watch towards the end when she meets the swimmer - hot! - but what a flick. Anyone else catch it again?

I don't like it...... well it's not that i don't like it, I'm just bored of it, Al watched it every day for a week a few months ago and i got sick of it very quickly. It's a good movie with some really good parts (Oi'm Beautifull!!!!!!!!!) but it never made me laugh like Priscilla or Strictly Ballroom.

Really? I think it's way better than Priscilla and Strictly Ballroom - so many memorable lines, a really interesting main character who lies/steals but still makes you fall in love with her, addresses some really serious issues like divorce and suicide and does it all in such a subtle and funny way that you can't help but laugh and cry with Muriel.

I'd forgotten how good it was.

I guess it depends on your mood, i think the bit where she walks past her mom at her wedding is heartbreaking and then she dies!!!!!!!
Al's fave bit is when they do Waterloo on holiday, he loves it, i prefer the fight the bitchy girls have hahahaha I'm not syaing it's awful but i'm just a wee bit bored of it, think over-exposure to it in May lol

Maybe watching it every day for a week is overkill! Blame your boyfriend for that..

I think he did it out of boredom more than anything else but yeah I still blame him for it, i spent most of the movie listening to my ipod and playing sim city on my DS lol

Oh does anyone know where it was filmed - not the Sydney scenes, but the ones in Porpoise Spit???

I was trying to figure that our last night, I think it might have been aroung Burleigh/Tweed Heeds? Dunno though.

The Sydney video store Videodrama actually existed (RIP) and it was kinda cool to see Oxford Street from 13 years ago, it looked so alive then!

Porpoise Spit scenes were filmed across 2 locations - Coolangatta and Southport on the Gold Coast.......the street scene of muriels house was Coolangatta and the restaurant/coast scenes were Southport/Labrador. Other shots were done at Sea World.

Yeah it does look like Tweed Heads, Wikipedia doesnt say where it was filmed but it says Porpoise Spit was modelled on up and coming resorts like Tweed Heads so maybe it was done there.......

a brilliant film - and the character of mariel/muriel really tapped into a lot of the childhoods and senses of humour for a lot of australians (and internationally too - evidently).

i will never tire of this movie. it's got that unnameable quality that sets aussie films out from all the rest.

How young did Toni Collette look in that film?
