Did anyone watch this show? Where are they getting their results? An old fart's home? Paying them all $2 to fill in a survey? Absolute bullshit. These were NOT on the list of the top 20 funniest films of all time and they are all in my top 10!

1) Zoolander! WHAT THE?

VH1 Reporter: Derek, are you worried about Hansel?
Derek Zoolander: Uhh, not as much as I'm worried about Gretel. "

Absolute Gold.

2) Coming to America - Eddie Murphy is a genius in this.
3) Team America - I can't believe they had the balls to do this type of movie! Awesome.
4) Happy Gilmore - Adam Sandler is hilarious.
5) Muriel's Wedding - The one Aussie movie that cracks me up every time.
6) Scream - the ingenious comedy horror. A class act.

These are the ones that I undoutably agree should be on the list as per the show:

20. A Fish Called Wanda - 1988 - John Cleese is so funny in this.
19. Dumb and Dumber - 1994
17. My Big Fat Greek Wedding - 2002
15. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - 1988
14. American Pie - 1999
13. Groundhog Day - 1993
11. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - 2006
8. Meet the Parents - 2000
7. National Lampoon's Animal House - 1978
6. Caddyshack - 1980
5. There's Something About Mary - 1998
3. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery - 1997
2. Flying High! - 1980
1. Monty Python's Life of Brian - 1979

And these should not be on the list:

12. The Blues Brothers - 1980
18. Blazing Saddles - 1974 Maybe I should see it?
4. The Party - 1968 - Maybe at the time.
16. Kenny - 2006 - This shit doesn't do it for me, pardon the pun.
10. Four Weddings and a Funeral - 1994 - you've got to be joking.

Zoolander has to be the funniest movie of our time. Isn't it? I can't fault it. Will is a god. Oh, more are popping into my head - Uncle Buck, that poor fat bastard, and what about National Lampoon's Vacation? Chevy and Beverly are GOLD. I'll be dreaming of funny movies all night now. :p

Where is ANYTHING by John Waters?!

My god, anything chosen by Channel 9 / Bert Newtwon is going to appeal to the LCD. Lowest Common Denominator.

Totally agree about Kenny, making jokes about poo is not humour.

That show is probably the cheapest to make on television.

i loved the sex scene in team america.

"come on everybody, we've got quiltin' to do!" god, so inappropriate.

i think i have to add 'serial mom', 'babycakes', 'priscilla'... and 'mommie dearest'... oh and 'showgirls' too!

I agree Zoolander is hilarious, but you're missing all the Kevin Smith flicks (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back), John Cusack flicks (Better Off Dead, High Fidelity) as well as some great action/comedies (Starship Troopers, Big Trouble In Little China), Supertroopers, Malibu's Most Wanted... I wouldn't class anything in their top 20 as worth watching more than once, except possibly Groundhog Day as a family comedy.

What about Ruthless People?

Hello Anchorman: The Tale of Ron Burgandy! Funniest Film Ever...

Ron Burgundy: Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.
Veronica Corningstone: No, there's no way that's correct.
Ron Burgundy: I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don't know what it means. I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.
Veronica Corningstone: Doesn't it mean Saint Diego?
Ron Burgundy: No. No.
Veronica Corningstone: No, that's - that's what it means. Really.
Ron Burgundy: Agree to disagree.

Classic... and what about....

Brian Fantana: I think I was in love once.
Ron Burgundy: Really? What was her name?
Brian Fantana: I don't remember.
Ron Burgundy: That's not a good start, but keep going...
Brian Fantana: She was Brazilian, or Chinese, or something weird. I met her in the bathroom of a K-Mart and we made out for hours. Then we parted ways, never to see each other again.
Ron Burgundy: I'm pretty sure that's not love.
Brian Fantana: Damn it.

The entire movie is just classic line after classic line!

Yeah, I thought about Smith flicks and didn't think they belonged in my top 20. And how could I forget Supertroopers and Anchorman.. I'm hanging my head in shame.

anytime someone coughs in our house, this line is quoted...in fact i think almost all our conversation is just a combination of dialogue from zoolander and ron burgandy

flying high: i remember when she used to sit on my face and wiggle

i remember hearing that as a kid, and thinking it was the single rudest (and funniest) thing i'd ever heard

ditto the old grandma describing elaine: supple breasts....nice firm thighs

or

the hospital! what is it?

it's a big building with sick people, but that's not important right now

ok, sorry - i'll stop now

Ah Flying High!

I loved the humour in that, I was about 7 or so and I remember that I thought for ages that an auto/dummy pilot was an inflatable object that came out of the plane's steering wheel!

Ah Flying High!

and you had to inflate him by blowing in the valve conveniently located around the groin area.. classic...

the sad thing is tim, i don't think my sense of humour has advanced since i was 7. i still think that style of humour is freakin' hilarious

robbie, that's a pretty impressive list you've started this with. i just watched a fish called wanda again the other day - it holds up really well

Tim D

I'd love to watch Flying High again and see how it stacks up. There's something for a cold Winter's night.

Reminds me of all The Naked Gun films, with Anna Nicole RIP.

What ever happened to Leslie Nielsen anyway?

I also really used to love Richard Pryor films - Brewsters Millions etc, they were great.

What about Ruthless People?

Ah yes, the fire crutch Midler and how about Outrageous fortune also with Bette and Shelley Long..

ben j
18th July 2007, 01:21 PM
i was flicking the other day and came across a bit of the second naked gun - it was still as funny (what is this, some kind of bust? yes. very impressive) - i reckon flying high would be as well

i think some stoner classics like harold and kumar go to white castle, and dude, where's my car could make the list...

ruthless people rocks my jocks...ditto outrageous fortune, but i think ruthless is the superiour of the two

Have you guys thought about Drop Dead Gorgeous - Kirsty Alley is Hilarious in that!

Voice of Documentarian: So what was the theme of the pageant last year?
Gladys Leeman: Last year? It was, "Buy American."
Voice of Documentarian: And the year before that?
Gladys Leeman: "U.S.A. is A-okay."
Voice of Documentarian: Can you remember the theme of your favorite pageant?
Gladys Leeman: "Can I? I'm Amer-I-Can!" People ask me where I get this. I don't know, it's, maybe a gift from God or somethin'.

Nurse: Hello Miss Sad Pants, and her friend, Serious Sally! How about a nice cool mint to help turn those frowns upside down?
Loretta: Do you think a nice cool mint would help if I shoved your head up your ass?

Amber Atkins: [after Becky gives Mary a box of chocolates] Good going Becky, she's anorexic.
Becky Ann Leeman: [covers Mary's ears] She's skinny Amber, not deaf

Gladys Leeman: The communal wine just proves too tempting for some people!
Iris Clark: That's why we Lutherans use grape Kool-Aid for the blood of Christ.

ben j

fortunately everyone i work with (boss included) spend endless hours on the net - so i don't have to do much justification...it's all 'research' as far as i'm concerned
