My parents asked me this question recently, "Melanie, when did you start liking girls?"

I traced it back to probably around junior school, around 11 or 12 years, when I thought the other girls were really pretty I wanted to be just like them.

Now this question is for you SameSamers, for me it was about 11 yrs, but when did you first start to notice people of the same sex?

I must admit, I was looking at boys at the age of 12.. same as you Meltite - they were pretty and I wanted to be just like them...

I think about 7 or 8 years old. It was really young for me and not sexual but I certainly had inklings by that stage. When I was about 10, I remember specifically the situation of looking at my sister's boyfriend's legs when he was wearing shorts & we were all sitting in the kitchen in the house where I grew up - that was certainly a progression of the feelings getting deeper. It still wasn't arousal but definitely attraction. Emotionally it was clearer by early teens.

I had a word for myself by 13 but up until the feelings were formulating over time and intangible.

Hmm, about 10 or 11 for me I think, but it was never about anything "gay", it was more about admiration and looking up to other guys and stuff like that.

But I think it's pretty clear in a kid around 11 or 12 - not enough for them to accept it - but for the thoughts to be there.

And that pretty much mirrors the same time for heterosexuals, adding more fuel to the nature vs. nurture theory.

i was very young when i noticed my then best friend neil get on the school bus. i was in kindergarten. i remember thinking 'i want him to like me' - it was akin to falling in love - all so innocent, but still, it was love.

i tried my darnest to get him to notice me. eventually he did, and we were best friends right through school and beyond. he's gay too. all worked out quite nicely...

i remember making him laugh by putting the lids of his textas on too tightly in class. when he took the lids off they made this loud squeaking noise. that was how we broke the ice. we were inseparable after that.

hmm I'm not sure. My first sexual attraction was probably around about the age of 10-11 ... when I learnt about stuff like masturbation ... I really didn't connect it with homosexuality though ... I just wanted to try it out with my best friend. I do remember in year 7 (age 12) I asked one of my friends when exactly we were ment to be attracted to girls? I realised that I had homosexual feelings in year 10 and I thought it was a phase ... in year 11 I tried to deny it and in year 12 I accepted that I was Bi. And now in my first year of university I have come out as bisexual ... on the homosexual side of it.

There were probably other hints of it when I was younger ... like my eagerness to participate in a I'll show you mine if you show me yours when I was 7/8. but I put that down to just being a kid.

On a totally random note this is my first post on the forums ... so hi.

I first noticed other people of the same sex when I was seven. But it took a bloody long time to notice that I noticed them, if you get my meaning!
