View Full Version : Australian Idol, who's gonna watch?

Thank god the dull as batshit Big Brother is over and something good can start, Aus Idol.
At least this show is about talented people doing interesting stuff, not untalented people doing boring stuff.
Who else is gonna be glued to their telly on Sun nights?

Maybe not for the first few weeks. I think I'll join in when the final 12 have been selected. The less I have to see of Dicko and Kyle, the better my sanity will be.
Tim D
31st July 2007, 02:48 PM
I have a theory that they will dump Kyle at the end of this series, and just move Dicko back into his place so it will be just 3 of them again. Mark my words.

Kyle is a fucking psychotic deadbeat, I hope he gets killed during the season.
Oh and for the presenters, I saw the one with the eyes popping out of his head emerging out of the toilets at the Lowenbrau wiping a white powder off his sleeve.

I couldn't have said it better myself Jackie!
I'll be watching for sure! So You Think You Can Dance is starting again soon too - can't wait!
I just really hope Dicko and Mark both gang up on him and he cries and has little tantrums all the time... that'll keep it interesting through the boring bits and the sad ass theme nights!

Yes, a Dicko vs Kyle fight is going to be fantastic.
Dicko will verbally beat him any day, but Kyle will just hurl a schoolyard insult back.

I've never watched it. I will only watch such talent shows if they bring back either Pot Luck or Ford New Faces. Somebody please resurrect Bernard King only he can save us!!! :p :D

I probably won't watch ... then again ... watching people make complete fools of themselves seems sort of satisfying. And a dicko vs kyle fight ... hmm I'm almost sold.

All I can say is: thank god Big Brother is finished for the years (and hopefully it never comes back), and there is now something interesting to watch on Sundays. Idol is hot!

Watched last night and found it so hard to follow who was being chucked out at each stage due to the crappy editing. I mean that first group with the whingey girl from NT who was going to quit and then mark managed to persuade her to stay and then they performed and they were just crap. Then as far as I could see they were told they were staying! How is that possible? And then they said it was down to 68 but you couldn't tell who left from the group stage.
At least tonight it should be pretty clear when they tell them all. I just wish they would focus more on the good singers so that we can see each stage of their audtions so that we can start forming views on them all.
Kyle is useless and demonstrates that each time he opens his mouth and reveals that he knows nothing about music apart from the songs which are on high rotation at 2Day.
I'm hoping when it goes live Dicko and Mark expose his lack of knowledge live on air.
Some of the guys look good. I like the guy who wears make-up who was arguing with the guy with bleached blonde hair. He seems interesting.

I value my sense of hearing, so I shall no doubt watch with the set on mute and the latest Paul Van Dyk album on rotation. The wailing budgies (australian idol) and charismatic voids (big brother) series are just starting to get tedious.

I really really don't like Dicko.
In fact i don't really like any of the idol "Judges"
Mark is lame - i mean the whole touchdown thing is so cringeworthy!!!!!!
Dicko is a wooden as Pinnochio
Kylie is just mean for mean's sake
And don't get me started on Marcia Hines.
The one woman self promotion team - I wonder if she'll have another album out this year to promote?????

im so excited bout idol
looking forward to all the ups and downs
i cry at least once a year when one of the performers does really well
(like last year with damien and nessun dorma)
might actually go to a show this year so my clapping and chearing that goes on wont seem so outta place.
i hope that NT chick gets in, so far her attitude has been a little on the crap side, but god can she sing and will do really well.
just hope she wants to

Saw it last night and most of the final 24 I agree with and they look pretty strong.
I had hoped the 19 year old guy with the dark hair had of gone through as he was awesome. The judges said he was too young but then put through 2 sixteen year olds. The trumpet playing guy looks a bit naff to me.
david_margeaux
21st August 2007, 01:33 PM
I'm already hooked - so much talent, so many hotties, so many arguments between the judges!
3 words for you - MUST SEE TV!
Tim D
21st August 2007, 01:53 PM
What's the name of the 16 year-old guy? Matt Corby I think?
I'm picking him as the winner already. He's as pretty as Dean Geyer but he can actually sing!

Feeling very idolish today as off to see Lisa Mitchell from last years idol at the hopetoun tonight. I'll report back tomorrow.

Ah wicked, she was never quite the Idol mould, but such a unique voice.
timmeyboy
23rd August 2007, 11:10 AM
I loved her, thought she was really pretty and with a fantastic voice, far too good for idol, i'm glad she's still around and from what i hear, getting a lot of newspaper space....

23rd August 2007, 02:19 PM
Yeah apparently she has been writing her album with paul mac, ben lee and a few other reasonable names so I have high hopes for her material.
I'd love her to play her version of Coldplays 'See you Soon' too as that was one of the highlights of last years Idol for me.

the guy who looks like johnny depp in pirates...i vote for him..anyone get the gay vibe from him?
Tim D

Yes a definite gay vibe from Captain Jack Sparrow on the show..
Cheetah77
24th August 2007, 08:40 AM

Saw Lisa Mitchell last night at the Hopetoun.
What an amazing talent she is. Her voice is truly unique and you can't help but be transfixed by her songs and music. I've never heard the Hopetoun so quiet before during songs.
A couple of the guys from evermore were there too.
Picked up her EP which I would highly recommend if you liked her on idol last year.
Looking forward to the semi finals starting sunday.
Tim D
24th August 2007, 10:11 AM
Was really keen to hear back how it was, thanks.
Just listening to her myspace and reminded of how cool she is. Was it busy?
Funking Trance
24th August 2007, 02:00 PM
Yeah it was pretty busy. There was quite obviously a different crowd to the usual Hopetoun crowd - lots of 18 year old girls.
Had a quick chat with her after the gig and she was lovely. Great to see her doing her own thing after idol.
Funking Trance
27th August 2007, 11:47 AM
No-one really stood out for me last night except maybe Daniel Mifsud. The others were very safe.
Kyle is looking completely irrelevant on the judging panel now and basically agrees with whatever others say or makes no points whatsoever. Channel 10 need to dump him.
DanM82
27th August 2007, 11:52 AM
I finally succumbed to temptation last night... why dear lord why? I was reminded of Hitchcock's The Birds... only renamed "Wailing Budgies". The only one I truly enjoyed was Carl... I was in the kitchen and couldn't see what he was like on stage but I truly enjoyed his version of 'Home' by Michael Buble. I would really like to see a jazz and blues person in the top 12.

27th August 2007, 12:28 PM
i think the first guy and the pirate guy should go through.
the first guy could sing heaps well
and the pirate guy would bring something new to the scene.
i felt all the others were abit average.
Tim D
27th August 2007, 07:59 PM
There's something really appealing about Husny, the pirate guy.
I like the fact he camps it up and puts himself out there.
PS. So totally correct about Kyle, all he did was re-iterate what the other judges said in different words. Hurry up and go to LA.

Cheetah77
27th August 2007, 09:40 PM
OK, I totally retract my stance on Husny the ring pirate - camp camp camp and did you see those friends of his in the crowd? Hello SISTER! Yeah, he was a bit OTT but I liked him and wished Daniel Mifsud had gotten through too... bumma. I don't think Jacob should have gotten in at all... boring.
The girls were good tonight tho - Loved Tarisai to pieces and liked Natalie too who did Hurt...
Tim D
29th August 2007, 02:06 PM
So I missed Idol last night, what happened?
Who got through and who was good/crap?
Funking Trance
29th August 2007, 03:10 PM
The girls who got through were Tasanai (sp?) and the young girl who sang the fergie song. Can't remember her name. I was quite happy with those two going through.
The guys last night were much better than the first group of guys. Ben sang a great version of Tears for Fears - Mad World and Marty the surfer guy was good too.
Jack is mad I think - he's certainly pretty quirky. The others were pretty bland - Lyall was very nervous.
Am loving Dicko being back on. He always has something interesting to say.
The wild card show on sunday should be interesting. Is it 2 picked by the public and 2 by the judges?
stock_standard
29th August 2007, 03:55 PM
yeah, and usually it's someone from the wild card show that the juges picks that gets to the top if not wins
Funking Trance
31st August 2007, 03:33 PM
Pretty happy with the final 8 so far - I agree with them all apart from Jacob Butler. He was pretty lucky to get through I thought.
Also liked most of the ones chosen for the wild card show.
It seems the judges pick 2 from sunday and australia picks 2.

31st August 2007, 06:52 PM
kyle is a waste of everyone's time. seriously. they may as well just wheel a drunk molly meldrum out onstage.
meanwhile, idol has had it's day. and hello - it's up against kath and kim! they need to get rid of it. i would rather squat over a cheese grater than watch this series.
yawn.
Funking Trance
3rd September 2007, 04:48 PM
haha too funny.
last nights wild card wasn't the best. I have a horrible feeling the judges are going to put carl through the terrible swing guy. I don't understand why anyone likes him. Swing is so 5 years ago now its getting really boring.
Husny was good and I liked the girl who sang the nina simone song.
Funking Trance
4th September 2007, 10:15 AM
So Carl did end up getting through - oh dear!!
Of the final 12 I quite like 10 so thats not bad compared to previous years.
Did anyone see the Kyle Sandilands interview on Andrew Denton last night. I hate the guy even more now after watching that. That radio phone call he made to that guys father who had been caught in the act with another man was completely irresponsible and just shows he doesn't care about anyone but himself. I also didn't believe his story about him being homeless for 12 months. It just doesn't appear what he says for some reason.
Tim D
4th September 2007, 10:22 AM
Carl is just bland, I have no idea why he got through. I wanted Husny! Just to add some real camp value.
Kyle is just a little boy lost. He's not very cluey either, every time Andrew poked and prodded him with interesting questions he'd just answer a really simple answer, ie. there's not that much there. That being said, he did come off as quite likebale.
Denton wouldn't let up on his angle that Kyle was the bully who was bullied though, would he?
Funking Trance
4th September 2007, 11:30 AM
Yeah Husny was great. Its a shame as he would have brought something very different to idol each week I'm sure.
Kyle is definitely thick. He shows that when he opens his mouth on idol.
I thought Andrew went quite light on him in the end. The rumour was that kyle stormed off the interview but that didn't seem likely given what they showed.
burgjo
4th September 2007, 12:26 PM
Damn missed the denton interview....... i hate kyle with a passion - so much i'd prefer to listen to Dicko!!
Excellent top 12 and lay off Carl - we need someone to vote off in week 1!
Funking Trance
4th September 2007, 12:47 PM
I've got a horrible feeling Carl will be with us for quite a few weeks yet.
Carl singing Rock in the swing style should be enough entertainment to make up for the pain!
Tim D
4th September 2007, 02:36 PM
Ok so can we take bets on who you think is going to win?
Here are my predictions:
3 to 1: Matt Corby
5 to 1: Tarasai
7 to 1: Natalie Gauci
And they are going to be the top 3, in my opinion.
MelbLouie
4th September 2007, 02:40 PM
Matt will make it to top 3 thanks to the teenage girls' lust... er vote.
Tarasai definetely have a great chance to be in top 3.
For me i'd love to see Carl and Daniel to last as long.
Funking Trance
4th September 2007, 02:54 PM
My top 3 would be:
Daniel Mifsud
Tarasai
Marty
First to leave would hopefully be either Carl or Jacob but will most likely be Lana

philandering
10th September 2007, 04:15 PM
omg lol i though carl was cool hahahah and i have hated his stuff from the start.
matt corby is cute and he can sing, i think natalie is boring some times... she comes and goes. brianna is cool but she would never win - shes like bobby flynn to good and individual for australian idol, the winner always need to be some one who can sing a love or thank god or some angels kinda song and that commoners and 12-17yr old girls can sing along to and understand the lyrics... its sad but true.
I agree with tim though on the final three... they are three mouldable people. However if matt ever has a bad night he will most likely fall into the bottom 2.

I have always been a big fan of IDOL. For the music industry in Australia, it keeps it alive, relevant, and refreshed. I had the great opportunity to interview Marcia Hines in my August Issue and was pleasantly surprised to find that she is genuine, intelligent, and really believes in her craft [entertaining]. She is extremely passionate about IDOL - which I think is the real difference between this show and some others...the judges [regardless of what one thinks of individual ones], the producers, in fact all who are associated with the show really care about the contestants and want them to be their very best.
It also makes some fairly amazing stars - Anthony and Damien for two [I have also had the great honour of interviewing these men...the latter of whom is in my latest issue].
Excellent show - I wish it many more years on our screens.

I went to the Live Verdict show last night - so much fun. Ben and Matt are my favourites - both can sing and are big spunks. Ben seems especially sweet natured and down to earth. can't wait for the rest of the series now...

17th September 2007, 03:25 PM
yeah pretty rubbish last night
I still like marty - he has such a cool voice.
Carl was lame as he always is. Thank god the judges are starting to see through it.
I thought Dicko was a tosser for what he said to Ben. I don't think you need to ridicule someone for being feminine on live tv. Very disappointed with Dicko for that.
Bottom 3 tonight I think will be carl, brianna and lana with probably brianna to go even though I would prefer carl to go.
Tim D
17th September 2007, 03:35 PM

Can't wait to see him do a disco song in the swing style and see how he manages to mess that up completely.
I also think its completely out of order to focus on a 16 year old being feminine and asking him about his sexuality in the public eye like that.

LMAO:D

ok so i am likely to get flogged for this one given my previous CARL BASHING - but the guy has kind of dug deep and found a little bit of talent! Yes i am admitting it and this week he deserved to be on top! So given that we have 5 left......
Natalie
Tarisai
Matt
Marty
Carl
Do we have revised top 2 bets? I say Matt and Carl will be the top 2 although i'd prefer to see Natalie take Carl's spot!

I agree Burgjo - He did a good job this week. I think Top 2 will be Matt and Natalie altho she wasn't on my radar at the start, I think she's a dark horse... I don't really care anymore, they're all pretty b;ah really... as long as Marty doesn't win, I'll be happy... I have another one to add to the list of ppl/things he looks like too... Agro! it all fits- the wide mouth, pointy teeth and scraggly hair...

I think final two will be Natalie and Matt although I would prefer to see Marty make the final two. Love the originality and tone in his voice.
Carl I absolutely hated before although Sunday's show I almost started to warm to him. He was definitely better than he has been before. I just can't bring myself to say I like him yet though.

does anyone see the absolute joy on natalies face whenever anyone gets kicked out - she was over the moon when ben + matt were in the bottom 2 and when daniel went last night she had a smile from ear to ear... its very interesting indeed...

perhaps Natalie's smile is her own relief of making it through another week! It's gotta be pretty stressful!

of course it's very stressful. They go through alot trying to find the right song each week and sing it right not to mention working with teh band as well as interviewing and stuff. then having to wait until after 8pm Mondays to find out whether you made it or not.
I think Natalie is feeling relief that she is making it through for a week more than anything.

Last night.. that chick made a meal of a Madonna song.. the jazz guy is as bland as cardboard.. and I just don't see what junior burger Matt has.. he's boring.. pretty, but boring.. makes me sick watching 53 year old Mark Holden's eyes light up when he commends Matt.. we all know what he really wants..

Oh RObbie - how can I not agree with you? They are all boring and Natalie MURDERED Ray of Light... more than that tho - and this is nothing new as I've whinged about Marcia many times before - but how many different songs can possible be her favourite?
She says it at least once every week, whether it's her straight out favourite, her favourite from the last year, hee favourite of all time or just the favourite from that particular artist or genre - it's about time someone gave Marcia some new scripts!
