Did anybody go to the Camp Betty events over the Queens B-day weekend in Melbourne in 2007?

This was something that needs to be ongoing...I noticed it didn't run this year. There were workshops and discussions, parties, picnics. It was pretty much advertised as a weekend of radical sex and politics and lots of genderfucking...it was great.

There is nowhere for the Queer punks, indie kids (the proper ones not the commercialised I-got-a-fringe-so-im-indie morons) and others in between to go to. We seem to have retreated into our rooms or the 9 to 5 world and left it to the next generation who seem uninterested/lazy in efforts to rekindle what there once was.

And don't even try to say that IQ (that crap effort to keep the Q&A crowd at Bar Called Barry) is vaguely Indie or whateverelse that is not mainstream.
Does anybody remember dancing to The Cure, Le Tigre, Bikini Kill, X-Ray Spex...etc at the Builders Arms, that was true Q&A.
I assure you, if you play that to the IQ crowd they would not have a fucking clue about the bands or songs, let alone enjoy it but get My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy, The Killers or even Pink playing at IQ they love it...commercial shit sold as "alternative" BOLLOCKS!!! I even heard Brittney being played at IQ a few months back...wtf? IQ is meant to stand for Indie Queer (apparently) but it seems more like it should stand for iFag. Utter shite!

I hear you rudeboy, it's seems as though any band with a guitar is classed as alternative these days. I've never been to IQ, does it play anything worth mentioning? It seems as though alot of the clubs here in Melbourne are set in their ways and will only play indie "anthems" and camp dross like, you say, britney.

Yep

but I've also danced to a Northern Star(Hole) Remix(not as bad as you think) at Peel, weird yes.

I share your sentiment though, I miss the old 77, with Bleach and Blue Monday

The alternate nights here in brisbane tend to play "alternative" dance... more the stuff that would not get played at the "normal" gay clubs.. so no guitar bands at all...
