Hellooooooooooooooooo everyone,

I'm in Brisbane this weekend for work and I've never really been out and about in the CBD except port office hotel for a work function.

Can anyone let me know what is good to see (sites during the day etc) and where is good for a drink and dance at night? ***excited***

:)

oh you wanna do the whole touristy thing? well I guess in that case it's South Bank parklands, Botanical Gardens and MT Cootha (for city views). Check out Chermside Shopping Centre and Indooroopilly Shopping Centre and the Queen St. Mall for shopping.
The city or the valley is the place for a dance at night! :) Fortitude Valley is where all the gay clubs are, cept sporties which is in spring hill and a pub.
Have fun this weekend hey!

New Farm is worth a visit during Saturday. If you jump on a city cat (great way to see Brisbane, and a definite must do), and head to New Farm Park. This Saturday the Farmer's markets are on, mainly fruit and vege, but great place to grab a breakfast kransky and a coffee. Oh and if you end up in New Farm Sunday afternoon, the bar at Powerhouse is a great place for a drink and people watching!!!

From there you could walk (about 20 mins) up James St which has lots of cafes and a few high end shops, further towards Ann st. (you can also catch a bus straight from New Farm park to the Valley or city) From the James st precint it is only about 10 min walk to fortitude valley mall. The TCB building in the mall is worth a look if you'd like to see what Young Brisbane designers have on offer! The Valley Mall also has markets on Saturday's! Clothes, jewellery and all kinds of groovy stuff! Not the best place for lunch, so would suggest heading back to the CBD or possibly South Bank (Buses leave from Ann St and go to both the CBD and South Bank, called the Cultural Centre).

The Optimism Exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art, South Bank is worth a look if you end up over there!

If you want to get in a bit of tennis in before the Australian Open, the finals of the Brisbane International are on this weekend too.

For Drinks in the CBD before heading to the Valley, boardwalk cafe, Siana ($$) and Jade Buddha ($$) on the river at Eagle St have great views.

And for Dancing the Wickham is more Dance music and has a great courtyard (smoking) for chatting to people. I would suggest going here first as the Beat doesn't get busy until after 10 (when the cover charge hits), and you may also meet some people who are heading up to the beat (people in Brisbane are generally very friendly)! The Beat is a mix of Pop, Top 40 and Dance. Make sure you use the entrance closest to Brunswick street and head up stairs... this is the main area where the dance floor and shows are!

Hope that helps...

Unfortunately it isn't as gay friendly now as it was and nowhere as busy as it was several years ago. Then it was billed as a gay night. Nowadays it is billed as a gay friendly hospitality industry night but unless you have the right look, clothes shoes etc and aren't over 30 you won't get in the door. It is getting less gay friendly as time goes on with more emphasis on the hospitality industry. It seemed to change a lot when Neroli (one of the founding DJs of Fluffy) took 6 months off to work overseas. It is a great club albeit looking a bit tired now and due for renovation. Maybe when the owners new venue finally opens after many lengthy delays they may then update this once great venue.

I only go about 4 times a year so I was not aware of all this. BUt i go there and have no trouble meeting loads of gay guys and i see guys pashing all over the place so that is gay enuf for me.

I find its a fun event and personally i like it gay friendly as i have straight friends and like meeting straight ppl too.

BTW neroli has returned last month.

Well I might just be there too. Keep and eye out for a giant oversized Yellow Duckie!

Or perhaps a poor little 'Melbournite' drinking solo in the corner! haha. JOKES. I think I'm returning Sunday afternoon (like 5ish) so can't make it.

Heading out tonight though. Right now all Im seeing is alot of the airport while I await my destiny by Mobile Phone! :'(
