Another touchy subject I have to whinge about.

How come when I have to save up shitloads to go to New York and Germany at the end of year, random things come up and eat up all my savings. I currently have 3 jobs and a HECS debt I have to pay off, plus on top there's the exorbitant amount of board I have to pay my mother to prevent me from being thrown out and not being able to have a car. And every now and then I will walk by a shop and be like "Ooh, $200 pair of Ksubi jeans, hmmm might as well, Oooh! and a belt". And the countless nights out at the place which now has the $25 entry fee I barely even get tipsy nowadays!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!!

And whenever this happens my dad (who happens to be Scottish and an accountant, double cheapness) always lectures me about I have to be cheap like him, but in reality I don't want to wear burlap sacks or underwear from Lowes. I know I can't be fucked from splashing money around on financial advisors but who else has these problems?

Money is always an issue. Sigh.

I'm trying to save up to visit a friend in England. And it's about the time you decide to start saving that universal karma decides you have a debt to be repaid. Several in fact.

There's the phone bill including those calls you never remember making to numbers you can't recognise until you check your phone.

There's the car rego you were saving up to pay for that you realise you haven't saved nearly enough for.

There's the service that your car needs stat because it's making that funny noise again.

There's the trip to the doctors because some kid got sick and happened to think you'd like to share in the fun.

There's the lounge you'll need to replace because it's finally got to the point where the hand-me-down is held together by little more than chewing gum and string and you know it's only a matter of time before it collapses on you.

There's the new DVD player you need to get because the one you've had for five years has finally decided it doesn't like you anymore.

There's the eighteen different birthday presents you need to buy because all of your friends were inconsiderate enough to schedule their birthdays on top of one another, without so much as even consulting you. At least you had the decency to have yours towards the end of the year, away from everyone else's and with enough space before Christmas.

There's the night out that your friends decide they need to have, and that you need to have with them, and that can only happen at the most expensive place in town that has decided to hike it's prices up again because it's undergone yet another renovation (that's eight renovations so far this year!).

And then there's the extra petrol costs since several of your friends decide that your ute is the perfect way for them to get home their couch/trestle table/fridge/washing machine and that bribery amounts to a coffee they're always to busy to catch up for. Or they've had the sheer gall to go and have their car stuff on up them, making you a chaffeur for any activities involving them.

Oh and then there's that whole business of the price of day to day essentials going up because a cyclone wiped out QLD's bananas, or a drought caused milk and meat to get even more expensive than normal.

And knowing my luck, there'll be a rent increase to boot.

Oh and to top it off, your favourite bands in the universe decide to release their new albums all at once knowing you can't resist the lure.

I feel your pain.

These things are sent to try us!!!.
i've been trying to save for AGES, managed to do pretty well until my birthday came along so all savings went on me, which I don't really mind but now it's my boyfriends birthday so now all my savings are now going on him, which in an ideal world i wouldn't mind but don't ya just hate having to give presents to other people!

It's not that i'm selfish or anything but I would prefer it if I could spend all my money on me, it's my money and i don't appreciate people thinking they can help themselves to it, mainly my gripes is with the bank for that, how can they charge me for looking after my money - IT'S MY MONEY!!!!!! If it wasn't for me (not just me, everyone else as well) they wouldn't even have money to look after so I don't appreciate them charging me for the pleasure!!!
We don't have that back home in England, they tried but we stood up against them so they scrapped it!!

Sorry just needed to vent....hehehehe

ever since my overseas holiday a few months ago i haven't been able to get back on my feet. and i am not even partying much either. or buying lots of stuff. not sure where the money is going...

i understand where you're coming from. it slips through my fingers like water.

however, i am not much of a capitalist. never have been very motivated by money. it's just a means to an end as far as i am concerned, not an end in itself.

i was put on this earth for more important reasons than money, so as long as i have enough to be comfortable, then that's ok with me. designer jeans - meh.
