Hi, I'm 18 and I've never been to a gay club.
Can anyone give me any pointers and tips about what goes down?
Any help would be great, thanks! :>

You'll probably get a lot of attention when you first walk into a gay club because the regulars might realize you're new, but find a club you like most (The Beat upstairs and Fluffy (at Family on Sundays) or Rainbow (Planet on Sundays) for young guys around your age) or the Wickham and Sporties for slightly older guys, well I've noticed anyway. It's pretty much a big dance party well into the night. Lockout is at 3am, which means after 3am you can't get into a different club or the same club you were in if you leave after that time. Most clubs close at 5am in Brissy. You might even prefer some of the straight clubs like Bank, Birdee Num Num, GPO, Fridays or Family.
Good luck on your first night out! Don't take your eyes off your drink, even for a second. Have fun!

Sweet as, thanks for the tips. :>
I'm from the Gold Coast and I know where the Beat is from Brunswick (I was looking for the outpost with mates during the day), but what should I do about travelling alone (no gay mates, closet)? I've heard some not too happy things about the Valley's night scene.
Should I maybe just go to MPs?

don't travel by yourself in the valley if u can help it....
mps' would ne a good start and then maybe come to brisbane at least with one buddy
u just have to be street smart no matter where u are in the world...
the valley is dangerous weekends at night so cab it if u can....
if u need help, we can take u around...

Hey Radis-Carpis... welcome to samesame!! :D
mp's is a fine little club.. and its in your hometown! i'd start there...
then when you feel like it come up to Brisbane.. i would recommend the Beat as a first time club.. its pretty mixed ( straight downstairs, gay upstairs ) , has a youngish crowd and gets very busy..
and its very good advice not to wander alone in brissy.. while its mostly ok, there have been gay bashings and random violence seems to happen a lot.
I think pdunni is living on the gold coast.. you should drop him a line on his profile!

I think a mid-week journey (wed or thurs night if you can manage it)to the Valley might be a good way to start - still plenty of people around, but no where near as busy and can let you get a bit more comfortable in the clubs.
And never go alone... inside the clubs its fine - you'll always find someone to chat to, its out on the streets where it gets a little bit scary sometimes.

Having said that I'm always walking alone through there and haven't had any problems - but I have seen stuff happen - I don't think it's any worse than anywhere else really. And the Police Beat's just in the mall.

Agree with meezon04! However, when I first started going out, I did it on my own and it was bloody scary walking into clubs for the first time, and I was a few years older than you. So if you can find someone to drag along for moral support, than do it! This is what fag hags are for :)

Yeah... sorry, don't want to sound all gloom and doom. I often stumble down the mall at 4 or 5 in the morning with out any issues.
Go out and experience it... you'll have a great time.
