So we have a few regulars in the Brisbane forums, but i imagine we have a lot more lurkers :D
This is the PERFECT time to introduce yourself!!! We're a friendly bunch here..
I'm Hazyinseptember, or Hazy, or even Sharkboy! I'm the brisbane editor of samesame, do a trade as a job during 7-4 and i'm a musician as well..
as you can tell i'm pretty busy, :D but i feel i have a lot to do in life and the 30's seems to be the time! My 2 bands are doing quite well ( Dizzygotheca and Master&Stryker ) and i have cd's coming out this year from both bands.
I have a hubby of 2 years who i think is wonderful! We live right on the border of the valley/new farm, although i'm a Melbourne boy originally ( moved up in 2001 ) and usually head back once a year to catch up with family.
So thats me.. spill yer beans peoples!!! :D

So as not to leave you hanging Hazy, I'll reply :)
I'm Andrew, self confessed trashbag at the moment (aka single)! I earn fund my life by working as a Commercial Analyst (yeah I don't know what it is either) in the mining sector. Spend time outside of work trying to run (the goal is a half marathon in June), going out, spending time with friends and shopping! Shopping is an addiction and really the only constant of the last 6 years so it is very close to my heart :)
I went to uni in Brisbane, moved away for 6 years for love/work, and to establish a career with the idea that I would eventually come back here when I had enough experience to maintain a Melbourne/Sydney salary in Brisbane. This was realised in June last year!! Gotta say that Brisbane has changed a lot in that time, and I think it is just about perfect for me (at this time in my life)!
Since being back in Brisbane I’m trying to fill my life with things other than shopping, so if anyone has any cool hobby suggestions... let me know! So far I have tried Buddhism, am doing Yoga at the moment and have just started volunteering as well! Would be cool to do something distinctly Brisbane/QLD!
Oh and one last thing I have a tendency to over use apostrophes!!!

I know what you mean about the !!! I tend to do it too :)
Awesome stuff andrew! But since posting this thread it's been viewed 18 times ... Come on people , don't be shy ! We don't bite ( unless you want us too :D )

I'm Ray and recently found love again. Was married to a woman for 3 years and have an amazing 8 year old boy which I adore! Had a 3 year relationship with a wonderful man that changed my life but have since parted and I'm into my 3rd relationship with another awesome man that makes me extremely happy :)
I work for an insulation manufacturer as an account manager/project estimator and have just been given the responsibility of setting up our new office in Melbourne. Most of my work in done online so I don't have to move there which suits me :) just means a few trips down there every now and then.
My favorite colour is blue and I have a weakness for shiny objects lol. In my spare time I mix with my CDJ's and hopefully one day I will do some gigs around town, but I'm happy with what's happening in my life at the moment. Love to rollerblade, shop, beach, shop, party, shop and go to new and interesting places. Will be going to NZ in April for a tour around the south island and can't wait!
I could write an autobiography, but I think I will leave it at that for now :)

Ben here... or BennyBoy, or Benji, or Mr Dover, depending on who I'm with.
31, single and happy (well if the single thing disappeared I'd be happier)...
Born and raised in Ipswich, and moved to Toowoomba for Uni for a BA (Journalism major with a Psych minor - I didn't finish). Hung around in the T-Bar for close to 8 years working in bars and generally playing up.
Been back in Brisbane for 7 years now, and am considering a move somewhere else. Time to challenge myself, and push those boundaries...
My 5 year stint with TAFE is about to come to an end, so I'm potentially jobless in about 5 weeks time... not happy about that I'm currently working as a HR manager, but have done everything from product devlopment, business process review, recogntion of prior learning, customer service projects (ie shutting down campuses... joy!)
I think I'm a gym addict (though the body doesn't show it)... but after losing 35 kilo's a couple of years ago, I find its my best stress relief, and get cranky if I can't get in for a work out...
Love to cook, love to entertain, love to drink (as Hazy found out last Friday night!).
I also like to use a lot of dots in my writing...

Hi everyone!
My name is Matty and I'm from near the CBD. I live in an all-gay household, and it's a lot of fun - certainly had some interesting experiences, and I don't mean sexual! :p
I'm gay and I guess I'm somewhat of a gay activist as I love seeing same-sex attracted people showing their affection in public, and even go 'awwww' when I see them kissing (guys or girls). I love all things homo - movies, books, festivals.. I guess I just love the pride of it all - it amazes me and I truly hope the world will be equal one day. I think it's also why I like checking out this website :)
I'm single, and although I'd love an awesome boyfriend, I find I can be there for my friends more being single and I guess it has it's benefits also.
I love to go to concerts of my favourite artists, but only if I really like them as concerts aren't cheap. I finished up in my retail job last week and I'm finding it fantastic being able to sleep in every day, when I've been used to getting up at 3:30am every day. I'm having fun with it so far but it's only been a few days, and I'm sure soon I'll get bored and want to get another job when I'm low on money.
I love tennis, table tennis and volleyball but don't get the chance to play very often.
I love hanging out with my friends more than anything.
I go on random drives in any which way direction as I love to explore, but generally no more than a few hundred kilometers. I'd love to check out Byron one day.
I've only travelled domestically, and the only states I haven't been to is Tassie, NT and ACT, but Tassie's on the list. i want to travel internationally soon.
My best mate lives in Perth and I miss him.
I have a mixture of gay and straight friends.
I'm very independent and pride myself on it.
I go to gym and I think I'm pretty good looking, but I have my self conscious days just like anyone else.
I've kept a blog of my life for about the last 5 years.
My parents don't accept me as much as I'd like them to, but we still talk, but I don't have a strong relationship with any of my siblings :(
I always try to see the best in people and I'm a very friendly person. It's a quality that haunts me sometimes, (cos there's a lot of assholes out there amongst the cool people) but I refuse deep down to let it get to me.
I try to live my life by a motto each year and I love meeting new people and trying new things, although it scares me to start with.
I love samesame.

Hello :) Good thread idea Hazy!
I'm Cameron, ex-West Ender currently living in Sydney.
I love Brisbane and had a ball living there for three years. I always did wish that the scene was a little more livelier though, so I'm really happy that Same Same now has a Brisbane editor to increase gay/lesbian media coverage in the area.
I really hope that the Bris gay/lesbian scene continues to grow rapidly, because as a city Brisvegas has so much to offer! The weather, the greenery, the museums and galleries, the moonlight cinema, walks along the river, new farm park, the beautiful powerhouse museum, having coffee under the fig trees at the west end markets, st lucia, the gold and sunshine coasts just a quick drive north/south, the friendliness of the people!
That's why I regularly check the Brisbane site and forums. I still heart Brisvegas!
And for all the ghosters out there (the people who read but don't post in the forums) hit me up in the shoutbox or via private msg anytime if you need info about the place.
Better still, join the fun and post in the forums. Nobody here bites (in public) :P

Ignorance77. you may have an idea of where I'm from... Goondiwindi!! Toowoomba's a great place (they have drinks at the burke and wills every friday night for the LGBT community in t'bar). I'm a farmer and a mechanic. I have 3 horses all in work and about to go to the local shows. I love Brisvegas when I get the chance to go there! I have friends there, but they live at the coast. The coast isn't for me really. But hey, I'm happy where I am right now, but it's hard to meet other lesbians in the country. I'm looking for friendships (doesn't matter who you are) or maybe a relationship. I usually go to brisbane 3-4 times a year. My favourite place in the whople worl is New York City. They have an amazing tolerance of gay/lesbian folks. And it's so safe!

Wow you're a Gundy Gal! That's awesome! You might have heard of where I grew up then - Millmerran? I was on a farm outside of it. And you're right, other gay people are a rarity!

Hey littleripper, I used to work at the Burke and Wills and tried to roster myself on for the weekly drinks (they used to be wednesdays back then). Wasn't out back in those days, but always enjoyed making everyone's drinks on the nights and having a good chat to them.
Welcome to samsame... hope you enjoy it!

But as I type this, it's piddling down rain, so I can't complain. I might go to bris in june. Party party party 'til I cannot stand the sight of beer!

Murphy's Creek... just at the bottom of the Toowoomba range on the Brisbane side.

I grew up in Brisbane and I still think of it as home. I've been living mostly in Western Sydney for the last 3 years of my life though, since I study medicine at university there. All the people that mean the most to me live in Brisbane though and I visit regularly.
As a person, my biggest interests are reading, I run a book club. I exercise pretty regularly, I'm not bad at Japanese, I love comics, and periodically obsess over a whole host of different tv shows (currently true blood). I'm only 20 and there's a lot to the world that I don't understand yet.
I have very little familiarity with the the gay scene in Brisbane or Sydney... I think I avoid it because I find it pretty scary. On the surface, it doesn't seem like a world I can really relate to. I think this is a bit of a shame.

I sympathise with you there. It is a little sad, but there ARE some nice guys out there, its just the crazies that ruin it for the rest of us. That said, I haven't worked up the will to go out to a gay club/bar in years

Hey Guys,
I'm Aaron. I'm 22, living on the inner-north side of Brisbane and work as a HR Consultant for Qld Gov't. I was raised up north in Sarina (near Mackay) and have been here since I was about 10. I spend my weeks working 9-5'ish and weekends with family and friends doing what i guess normal people do (movies/concerts/clubbing/picnics etc).
I'm single, which has it's ups and downs. I have a really close group of friends which support me as much as I do them so I guess you could say I'm lucky in that way. I came out to my family just before Xmas last year and they're all very accepting and in some way already knew. I have to brothers and one of them is gay also so nothing too much for my parents really lol.
I wear my heart on my sleeve and have been burned a few times. I'm getting smarter (I think) when it comes to boys and life in general. I love seeing people happy and have always been a softy for romance and generosity.
I wasn't long ago still in high school and looking back I can see how much I've changed... Not being scared of discrimination against homosexuality or race. I'm a true supporter of people being themselves. There's boundaries to it. I'm not one of those guys who lives my life based on the fact that i'm gay. Your actions make you the person you are, not your sexual preference.
That's about it for now... I tend to ramble on these things... Thanks for reading! haha
Peace out!
Cheers - Azza

I really don't like associationg myself with Gundy, but I have to, and I have thick skin, so say what you want about my home town! I work on the family farm, mostly tractors trucks and the odd pig (feral and domesticated). What town has 80 people? Let me guess... Aramac?

well i am sure as with any town there are good and not so good people breathing oxygen in gundy. i have issues with the sunny coast too, red necks, (thankfully a minority) from my past associations etc before i accepted i was gay and came out, minority or not they are still out there and if they see me out n about - well enough of that.
no the small town is not aramac. i grew up in little town called kumbia. still has pop of around 80, maybe less?

6th July 2009, 07:08 PM
My name is Sean. Four years ago I was married with two beautiful children and a fantastic wife, I had a large home and a successful business.
January the 5th 2005 I rolled over in bed after many months of depression even though many thought I had the great life and told my wife I liked men. When those words came out of my mouth I didnt realise the rabbit hole I was about to fall into. I wasnt prepared and didnt know where to turn to for help to understand what was happening to me. After many many casual male experiences I kept feeling more and more lonely. I was on gaydar constantly trying to find what was missing.
After about 8 months living like this I went back to my wife disappointed and disillusioned with gay life. Where were all the nice decent guys? I had not completely left the family, as my wife said if I wanted to return to the family I could after I got my "illness" completely out of my system. When I approached her about returning home she said I should wait a little more to make sure I was "better".
In two short weeks I met a young man of 21 who blew me away, he was caring, decent, intelligent, funny and found me interesting. I was in love...little did I understand.... I had met him in Melbourne on a business trip. I didnt realise it at the time that he was suffering from many mental health issues caused from abuse when he was younger and was using drugs and alcohol to mask them. As I was helping produce a feature film at the time and had to move to Melbourne to help set up production thats where our friendship grew.
Being that I had come from a stable, loving family life with no problems, to suddenly confronting drugs, the scene and the "Gay Lifestyle". I was totally unprepared even at my age and supposed maturity. I didnt have the tools to deal with what was happening in my life and I didnt know where to turn. So my relationship with my ex was very rocky and it slid into a dark place for both of us. Alot happened during this time, enough for a book but lets just say It ended with me having to call the police as I was constantly being beaten up every weekend, even though I was much strong fighting with someone on drugs is a lost cause. My neighbours said they were going to call the police as they could hear what was happening every week even through a brick wall. But I knew it had to come from me.
But my ex never forgave me for calling the police and our relationship soon failed. It still hurts today to think he felt I was controlling and manipulating in the bad sense when all I wanted was for him to be mentally healthy and off drugs. Because I was new to the gay life and drugs I made alot of mistakes in the relatioship too. I wasnt an angel either.
Now I understand, that once I found out about his mental health situation and drug use I should have stopped our relationship as it could never work and continue it as a friend so he could get the help he needed.
Yes we can look back now and see what I should have done. Even after many months of no contact with my ex I think about him every day and the mistakes I made so as to never repeat them again. An example of my new thinking is I recently started having feelings for a young man again who I have known for awhile, but soon realised that, I could help him more as his good friend then as a partner, It hurts me to see what hes doing to himself, but he now is seeking help with my support to get his life back to where it should be and that makes me feel so good.
My exBF thought that being a young gay man meant you had to be part of the scene and take drugs, as to him there was no other way to socialise. With that comment still firmly implanted in my mind I have been wanting to create a safe place for young gay youth to grow outside the traditional scene. Twenteenz is a socail group in the making and is on Facebook, the name came from Aaron the founder. He also has a story to tell as to why he is so passionate about this project too. I am currently a qualified assistant in nursing in the community specialising in mental health and disability issues with young men.
I am a Nursing Student at University majoring in Mental Health. From the ashes of my relationships with my exwife and my exBF comes a man determined to support and help gay youth reach their full potential by providing them with the tools and resources and a safe place to have fun and express themselves.

Both my children know Im gay and are cool with it and my exwife realises now that my "illness" isnt going to go away....lol
My story is basically to show that even if you feel you are in a dark place there is always a light, you just have to find it, with the right tools of course.....

Thats a remarkable story, I've experienced what drugs can do to families first hand, but you've been through the ringer and back. I've spoken to you and Aaron before, and look forward to seeing how your group turns out :) Still, welcome anyway and I'm glad things are back on track a bit for you

Yeah, everything is good here, too good actually. I helped Aaron setup twenteenz but Im so busy with Study, work and a personal life I have backed off twenteenz so Aarons going to need help I think in keeping the group alive.
For those of you how dont know, Twenteenz is for the Personal Development of Gay Young Men and Woman 18 to 25 years old in the South East Queensland area using good youthwork practice, it will also be a place where same aged people can chill and get together in a non threatening environment.
We will be looking to create a united, youth-focused infrastructure that will support the overall well-being of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Transsexual, Intersex, Questioning, Curious, Asexual, Pansexual or “Queer” and /or people who are potentially socially marginalised as a result of their identity.
The above goals will be achieved by:
=> information nights (eg sex and mental health talks, relationship counselling etc),
=> social events (eg. BBQs, movie nights, ten pin bowling, sports etc),
=> networking evenings run in a way everyone is included and will be enjoyable.
More information is here http://www.brisbanegayandlesbiancommunitylinks.com/twenteenz
Our email is twenteenz@hotmail.com and you can join our Facebook Group at twenteenz or if you dont have a facebook account use MSN Group http://twenteenz.groups.live.com/

Hey beingurself2! I have my AIN qualification, but currently doing Enrolled Nursing (endorsed) at TAFE. I'd love to be in mental health but I'm in maternity. I'm thinking of changing to something else, preferably Mental health as it's something close to my heart. Good luck with your endeavours, and I might see you at a hospital near you!! hahahaha.

Mental Health will be one of the most challenging of nursing roles. Psychiatrics is full on and you can get a wide range of clients. I will be specialising in Youth work and within that gay youth. Teen suicide is too high as well as substance abuse. So lots of people need our support.

Yeah, I agree that the suicide/substance abuse rate in teens is too high. I've worked with middle aged people with suicidal tendencies too, but as a young person, I think that young people are the ones who need our help as they have their whole lives in front of them. I think everyone's life is as valuable as anyone elses and we all need help from time to time.

Hey littleripper and beingurself,
you guys want to work mental health it is tough. Here in lismore we get called in to assist with teens and sometimes adults in the mental health section of our hospital. As security its good in the sense that you have an influence to a positive extent if you use it - cruel in the sense that some kids truly tear at the heartstrings. Some are so messed up - so angry, frightened, aching and we can't always do something for them. Its very challenging to reach them with where they are at - especially if they are self-harming aggressive - or manic depressive it can be very tiring if you want to get into their headspace - just be mindful about how you get in there, and then out - hopefully with a positive outcome. We had one teenage girl 14, brought in from a family breakdown, who was on the streets and totally non-responsive, angry, violent, selfharming - she was a cutter. It was very tricky dealing with her bc she was quite a big and strong young woman, and yeh the doctor assessed her and the best we could do was try not to overstimulate or provoke her in any way- she was threatening to kill staff and finally we had to have a few security restrain her - medicate her and hold her in insolation. Not the happiest story but thats just a days work. We had a 32yo gay male in adults HDU who was paranoid all the others were going to bash him (legit fear) only this guy kept mouthing off to the other males and was putting himself in danger by doing so. The energy in the ward changed as two of the others; one delusional and the other pass/aggressive; it got scary as a fight almost broke out. Cups of hot tea and coffee were thrown, screaming and yelling, it disturbed the calm ones and yeh - not always quiet. Sorry for the long post but reading your conversation made me think if i share this it will contribute to your experiece with mental health anyways.. Most other days the clients are well on their way to recovery - they are well cared for and the job is thoroughly rewarding when you see them improve.
Good luck with it guys

Hello, I'm Peter, and being a very introverted sort of person, decided I'd just take the plunge and say hello :p
I'm 28 years old, and have only really just started coming out. It's been a huge and long journey to get here, there was a long period of my life where I was a loner, didn't have any friends other than just socialising with others only at work, simply because I got burnt by a bunch of so called friends when I was in my early twenties.
It's taken a long time, and a lot of courage, to start getting out there and making new friends (and to be honest, it's only been a couple of months since I started), and hopefully by doing this I'll find the right guy to begin a relationship with. After being alone for so long, and relatively happy with it, it's like the floodgates have been open - I much prefer going out with friends now :)
But being an introverted person, it's hard for me to begin that initial conversation - things are much better when I know someone, then the conversation can happen quite easily. Getting to that stage, though... hehe. To help things, I've even started writing a blog - but that's helped quite a bit already, in writing down how I feel about things, and even learning a bit more about myself... for example, this sort of introduction a year a go would have been a nightmare to write :p
So.. after all that... Hello!

Thanks for the welcome :o
To be honest, I really don't get out that much at all, the couple of friends I've made recently have been all online through such fantastic sites such as Manhunt. It's not an easy site to find friends since most people are there for other reasons, but I've made at least one really good friend through the site, so I'm happy with the results so far.
I guess the reason I don't go out that much is that the whole club/pub scene isn't my style - I'd much prefer a dinner and a chat, or a DVD at home, than going out - which makes actually meeting people a bit harder - hence relying on websites. But I wouldn't mind attending a samesame meetup, if only to get me out of the house for once :p

Oh! I just realised I haven't introduced myself here!?
Well I'm Shaun, live up on the north side (Petrie) with my dear mum and two cats :)
I'm the quiet, reserved, shy type - with humour and a dash of insanity mixed in. Star Wars and similar sci-fi like Doctor Who/Torchwood/Heroes/Stargate being my main passions - excluding computer/internet ;)
I moved up from NSW Mid North Coast back in Dec 2000 and have stayed up here ever since.
I'm doing what I love and that is working in admin for the QLD Govt (Industry Licensing Unit - issuing Security provider licences). Everyone at work is happy and smiling, helping each other out and generally creating a positive atmosphere. I gain a significant amount of happiness from my work/colleagues - actually they've helped me break a few barriers and I've since become a bit more social/talkative.
Oh dear! There goes my wandering mind again... So thats a bit about me :D
And so I give a big Welcome/hello to SameSame! to all the people here :)

Hey Shaun - nice to see someone else that loves Doctor Who / Torchwood as well, hehe :p
As for the samesame meetup - maybe meeting on a weekend at a park near the city would be good - bring your own lunch or something? A good way to meet up, that's not as confrontational as maybe having it at night in a club or something - especially for those of us who've not been to one (hangs head :p )

they are both ok... i prefer the sportmans hotel, its a pub and tends to be more 'down to earth' as far as gay venues go..
funnily enough i was thinking of having a meet at a non gay venue..??
Rics Bar is a great place, there is an area out the back with couches and galaga table top video games... its also quite gay friendly..
i really like the park idea though.. newfarm park is really nice down by the river.. and if timed right we can get a bbq !! :D

The Wickham can be daunting, but it's not so scary once you realise it's full of insecure label queens who think that wearing a designer's slogan across their chest will impart some of their fame and 'cool' onto them. It's really all a bit of a joke - a bunch of people who think they're too cool for school somehow not realising they're in a dive of a pub in what passes for a gay scene in the overgrown country town of Brisbane. The Wickham wouldn't last a week in Sydney or Melbourne, it would immediately close due to lack of business. So if you really wanna go there for some unknown reason, just think of that, LOL. Seriously, the gay scene in this 'city' is very bitchy and cliquey - you're better off meeting guys through the internet or through social groups than in the gay dives in The Valley and Spring Hill.

Would have to disagree with most of your comments... some of the most popular Gay pubs in Sydney and Melbourne are similar to the Wickham... the Newtown (they were evicted sadly), The Imperial, even Stonewall, then there is the Greyhound and the Peel in Melbourne.
As for bitchy, Brisbane has one of the most inclusive gay scenes on the East Coast. You get a greater mix of people in Brisbane clubs, pretty much every Sydney club is full of label/scene queens... as for cliquey... thats everywhere!
As for label queens... inside on the dance floor, fair point! But outside its a different story!

Is this a joke?!?! The Wickham is nothing like the fabulous old Newtown Hotel (RIP). NOTHING. The Wick is full of silly twinks wearing labels - the complete antithesis of the quirky old Newtown, which was a fab mix of alternative/goth gays, kooky drag queens, lesbians, and regular Joes who looked liked they dressed at Lowes. The friendly, fun atmosphere that prevailed at The Newtown bears no comparison to the dire Wickham. Stonewall, however, is a bit more like The Wickham. But there is nowehere in Brisbane like the old Newtown, or the Taxi Club, or the Clarence for that matter. Sporties is kinda OK, at leats it has *some* atmosphere, albeit a daggy 1970s one. The others = yuck. The Wickham is dire and The Beat would have to be the worst excuse for a 'gay' club in Australia. It's all opinion of course, but that's mine and I'm entitled to it. :D

Well hello everyone, I'm James (aka Mudley).
I run my own business and I'm also a musician, event producer and publicist. I'm passionate about original and innovative music and the avant garde performing arts in Brisbane and I've produced/co-produced many music events, cd launches, performance events and event series. I've worked with many diverse artists and musicians as well as with the Brisbane Cabaret Festival, Pride Festival and QLD Poetry Festival.
The rest of my CV includes.... growing up in Warwick & Caloundra, getting myself about 80% of a Film & TV BA from QCA, working as a music/arts journalist and being a venue manager at The Zoo for about 5 years. I started my business when I was 21 so I've never really had a 'real' job I suppose!
I'm in a relationship of eleven years with my partner Sean, he is a very talented photographer, designer and digital animator. We live in a QLDer in Coorparoo with our slightly stoopid (but sweet) dog called Ollie.
I love movies, music, swimming, cooking, writing, making music, playing the drums and piano, being really vulgar, spending a long time getting dressed, having lots of time with my friends, meeting new people and watching inappropriate and un-PC TV shows like Nighty Night, The Sarah Silverman Show, Strangers With Candy and anything by John Waters.
I like dressing up pretty posh-queer-chic (I guess) to go out and I'm also partial to a bit of black nail polish, some guy-liner, a black tie, my new hat and a nice french cuff.
I can't tolerate loud noises, bright light, people talking all at once or things not happening in the order they need to happen in. No really... I'm fine. Just fine.
Anyway... I'm exhausted after writing all that.... erm... send me a message or something! :)))

My name is Jesus and you may know me from books such as " The New Testament".
Being an omni potent, omni present being, I am currently living, here, there and everywhere.
But rest assured, I am in Brisbane regularly.

Hey guys,
Well single guy here on the Gold coast,
Earn a living working for myself being an interior designer, (not the wrist flapping kind) although I have no problem with them. Have had a couple of long term partners but have been single now for 18 months,
Discovering a new side to myself in the process of being single and have finally accepted that I am a nice guy. Don't have a lot of friends in the SEQ as I was raised in sydney but uni educated and then spent 10 yrs in newcastle.
Been on the coast about 3 yrs but had ongoing work in Sydney & Newcastle so didn't get to spend a lot of time socialising here on the coast. Have decided to take the balance of the year off due to family commitments, IE Dad's 70th mid sept, Bro's wedding mid october and Grans 90th mid november so as I'll be bouncing around the country for those & decided to make a holiday of it.
I'm a lover of anything outdoors, beaches, gardens, occasional camping trips, boats etc etc so on a nice day you'll find me doing at least one of those things.
Not sure what else to say and I'm not really that great on the computer anyway. I guess if you wanna get in touch you have more of an idea of how to do it than I would.
cheers Jase

Hi all,
My name is John, am one half of a "country couple" living on a farm in Murgon (near Kingaroy for those of who don't know where this great place is - tho it appears that almost everyone in Qld has lived in/near or dated someone from the South Burnett).
A biochemist and former now reformed "executive", spending some quality time thinking/enjoying life, though of course the mortgage monster has called and so am working back in a lab 3 days/week at the moment.
We don't get out much, much as we'd like to, tho do manage the odd clubbing venture (when we make the age/shoe/dress code :) - gotta love/hate family).
Apart from that have found some of the questions where the answer could be 42, and chuckling at some of the universal jokes in the process.
Hmn, anything else? Just ask...
Purrs peace and harmony to all,
Treehugger John (if you've never hugged a tree  -try it one day - its quite amazing...)

Hi,
I'm Brad, I'm 22 years old, was studying full time at Uni but have just deferred to focus on money issues. I'm eternally single and mostly fine with that. I'm not as eloquently spoken as alot of people on this board seem to be, but I try my best. I've lived in Brisbane my whole life (well, moved here when I was 1, so practically) and I don't really have alot of gay friends as I'm not really a clubbing person so that leaves me out of "the gay past-time". I was interested in hosting the board games night so check out my message in that thread and hopefully i'll hear from you. Great to meet you all!

Hey all!
I just joined a few days ago. Have been doing a bit of lurking and finally plucked up the courage to post something :)
I'm really excited about my move to Brisbane - organised a transfer to my work's Brissy office and will be flying up this Sunday. I've been living in Melbourne for most of my life so I'm really looking forward to the warmer weather!! It's still freezing down here even though we're technically in spring... Just got back from an awesome holiday to Egypt where it was 50 degrees on some days so I'm feeling this cold even more. And before you ask, kissing the sphinx wasn't all I hoped it would be - some reciprocation would've been nice :p
I love to go out, meet new people and experience new things. I'm up for anything, sports, dinners, movies, bars, clubs, boardgames, karaoke.... Hoping to explore the city and the rest of Qld, meet some great people here to hang out with and soak up the Brissy culture!

Cabaret Q: Queer and quirky performance next wednesday night 30th Sept.
On Wednesday 30th September, Queensland Association for healthy Communities (QAHC) will launch the findings of States of Mind: an arts/ research project looking at Mental Health & wellbeing along with alcohol and drugs in Queensland LGBT communities. But this is no ordinary launch. QAHC established Q-ARTS, the creative component of the project and invited LGBT performers to interpret the research themes in order to engage more directly with LGBT communities. And the result is Cabaret Q: A night of queer and quirky performance.
Beginning at QAHC, the audience will be transported by bus to various locations around Brisbane where performances will take place, ending up at a secret location in New Farm for the finale. Transport back to QAHC afterwards will be provided.
Don’t miss this one-off opportunity to catch some queer and quirky shows exploring drugs and mental health and wellbeing in our communities by Brisbane based performers including Chris Maver, Everlyn Hartog , Ruth Gardner, and Team Fag to name a few, with DJ's dud, Litear and others spinning tunes at the after party. This event is FREE and food is provided. RVSP essential. Limited places available so get in quick. Call Jan or Tim at QAHC on 3017 1777 to make a booking. Doors open at 6.30pm. Be at QAHC no later than 7pm or you may just miss your ride.
see you all there

I don't think I ever introduced myself, whoops!
I'm Jen, I'm 25 and I live in Brisbane (...obviously). I'm an EC teacher who is trying the starving artist gig at the moment, it's fun in a really poor kinda way :D I'm trying hard to not have to go back to working for someone else, I much prefer being the boss. I've done a bit for writing for Samesame in the past, it's awesome!
I like blogging, having short hair, buying shoes and making things. I dislike getting dirty, action movies and cold weather.
Give me a shout if you wanna chat! I'm particular obsessed with Twitter at the moment, you can follow me @ScienceofStuff

Madame Mystique
26th September 2009, 12:13 AM
G'day to all my sexy boys and girls out there
My name is Steve, aka: "Madame Mystique". I moved to the Gold Coast in October '08 and started working in a bakery on the north end. This wasn't really good for a social life, and I don't really have any good friends around here to play with.
I am a remarkably social creature that yearns to be around others. I was a girly boy that had a spiritually strange childhood. This took me into many years of self reflection, and hermitage. In doing so, I found what I already had, and my heart had opened up to a burning desire to share itself with other's...
"I am a sculptor, a molder of form. In every moment I shape an idol. But then, in front of you, I melt them down I can rouse a hundred forms and fill them with spirit, but when I look into your face, I want to throw them in the fire. My souls spills into yours and is blended. Because my soul has absorbed your fragrance, I cherish it. Every drop of blood I spill informs the earth, I merge with my Beloved when I participate in love. In this house of mud and water, my heart has fallen to ruins. Enter this house, my Love, or let me leave."

Much Love and Light to you all, my children

Hey everyone,
Happily engaged transman living on the North Side of Bris Vegas with my wonderful partner of 3 years. Hoping to start a family in the next few months. *Fingers crossed*
Lived all over the place, mainly country NSW. Only been back in QLD for about 10 months, so don't really know that many people. So friendships are welcome..
I lead a bit of a boring life which seems to revolve around my partner, work and uni.
I'm addicted to music and XBOX 360 gaming.

Introductions have never really been my strong point, but meh, you don't meet new people without introductions.
I'm 20 years old, about to finish uni, seemingly forever single but learning to live with it. Just on here to maybe feel a bit more like a part of the whole community and maybe make some new friends (especially since I really REALLY don't enjoy clubs and bars).

Wait a minute! What is this about "most of us anyway" being nice? Do you have trolls in Brisbane like we did in Adelaide?

well after introducing herself at various tables and people's private little picnics in the park (proudly telling of her home location of Adelaide) she proceeded to relieve her bladder behind a palm tree with another woman screening her (not too well i might add) with a picnic blanket (the toilets were only 50 meters walk away from her)
further humour for us that afternoon

Be aware of Dizzygotheca and Master & Stryker . . . . .
I have a theory that the songs have subliminal messages behind them making you listen to them on a daily basis! I have been ensnared in this web since September

Hi!
I'm Hayley. 23yrs old. Living on the Sunshine Coast, but lived in Brisbane for the past 4 years, and also go down there frequently.
I live with my girlfriend of 3 years and am always looking for new and interesting people to chat with.
I have only been'out' for about 2 and a bit years and enjoy learning and hearing about other peoples experiences.
I'm also curious about the transgendered community. I am femme but I love that these trans people are so brave and strong to make the changes they need to feel complete in life.
I'd like to study psychology next year and eventually work in the LGBT community.
Have been browsing this site all day (what a productive work day) and find it very interesting and fun to use, whilst being informative.
You can find me on twitter - @forbiddenlust86 or myspace.. same username :)
I hope to talk to some of you soon!

Hi,
I'm Tim. Signed up a few months ago after Chris sent me the site but have only really looked at the news pages a little. Lived in Brisbane for about 6 years I think now, grew up further up the coast (by about 1000kms ). Fairly average I think, work in production, play video games and do a lot of gym as well as just started swim training.
Only really been out for about a year, to my parents for about 3 months.
After a bit of a massive year I am ready to start relaxing again.
Can't think of much else to say...
Cheers
Happy to be me

Hey everyone.
I'm Brendan, 20 years old and going to uni. I also work in a video store which is handy because I'm a big movie buff. I'm one of those really geeky people, I watch alot of movies, play alot of video games, read alot of Graphic Novels (read: Comic Books) and am utterly in love with TV on DVD (best invention ever. Take that, wheel!).
Just found out about this site and am currently looking around, seems like a great community. Really glad it was shown to me.

Hi. I'm Tyson and I'm looking for some friends, which is harder than it used to be for some reason. I'm 30 going on 1000 and unfortunately single. I say unfortunately because I don't want to be. I broke up with the love of my life in June after 8 years and, well, I'm heartbroken. I am an architect and like gardening. I used to be a bar bitch at Sporties so I'm sorry if I cut you off when you were a little too unpretty or forgot your order when I was a little too unsmart. I look forward to forging a long and completely shallow connection with your font. Wow, cynical. That's a new angle for me. Ok, well, I guess to be honest I'm not really at a good point in my life (attractive, I know) and would like to meet someone or someones non-mutant with a sense of humour to wake me up and disco dance til dawn (actually, dvd til dusk will be fine). Good luck to me.

Hi Tyson,
sounds like you need to read some "Scripture of the Golden Eternity" to get some perspective... :-). Smile, it all amounts to nothing and everything at the end...
See ya when Mother Karma deems a random interception is meant to be. Till then, purrs peace and harmony.

Hi guys n gals - i'm Mark. I am an older guy (53) in a long term relationship living in the west and am currently building up my Samesame profile. I like participating in online forum/chat about interesting topics. I only get online 2-3 times a week so will not be a prolific contributor (too many demands on my time!). I am known in real life to several members in this group already but they did not know I have been lurking for several weeks now deciding if I should join or not. I will load a photo when I have something current and suitable (most pics are on the old dead 'puter and it will be easier to take new ones than wait till I rescue the old:D ).

Okay so I've been a long time 'creeper' of these boards without really contributing, so I thought I'd better give you a quick run-down on me so you know who that smart ass is that butts in with a witty remark (if I do say so myself).
My name is Pete, I'm 21, live in the Valley, work in the City as an (Insolvency) Accountant (which is much more interesting...). I grew up in Hervey Bay and moved to Brissy in 2006 to begin my degree which I finished at the end of 2008. Since then all I've done is worked (travelling will come very soon... I hope).
I was in relationship for 3 and a half years which ended in April last year. They were good years but I've enjoyed being on my own, doing my own thing rather just being known as ('Blank' and Pete... the boys).
I guess now I should probably put myself out there as a 'dater'. I'd like to think I'm a spontaneous beast who has lots of hot random sex but it's not really my nature. So if you know a nice boy around my age, send him my way and I will wine and dine him!!!
When I'm not trying to carve a career in the harsh world of corporate accounting, I'm out to dinner with my friends, drinking coffee, drinking wine and beer, eating junk food, watching movies, or if I'm feeling adventurous, at a music festival or out on the town. I have a passion for queer rights, especially outspoken against the unequal age of consent in Queensland for anal sex, something that I have (recently) been directly affected by. So if you hear someone having a whine in the media about that issue, it's probably me.
So that's me in a nutshell ('no... this is me in a nutshell... help! i'm in a nutshell...' - i tend to quote movies a lot). Pretty boring life.
One of my new years resolution was to meet new people, make new friends etc. I hope I can be a little more active on SameSame and meet those people. I'm not one to discriminate, I enjoy speaking to both gentleman and ladies of all ages. Not to discriminate against my own age bracket... but I tend to be able to hold a conversation with older people.

A bit late to do so, but here is my intro.
Newly 22, been in Brisbane my whole life pretty much, never been in a relationship (barely even go on dates). Out of the closet to my friends and to my parents (kinda... its complicated).
Work for a big department store in the city, study science. Pretty geeky.
Erm... I think that is all.
