I was wondering what were people thoughts as to what is the biggest stereotype placed upon "gay culture" ?

Gay men - Queens

Bisexual men - In denial of actually being gay and/or promiscuous

Bisexual women - Not actually bisexual, merely being sexual with other women as they're perpetually curious and/or like to make men horny

Lesbians - Dykes


Culture
- Promiscuous
- Camp
- Dirty
- Colourful
- Second class

I was gonna say sex-crazed and obsessed but maybe that's not a stereotype after all! :p

Probably that the gay community is all weak-wristed, AIDS-infected and bitchy queens.

Personally, I hate the one that some people seem to have where they think that being gay is a 'phase which will pass'.

Or the one that some of my friends have, where anyone gay must want to sleep with them. A thought which both terrifies and disgusts them apparently...

Anyway, have to agree with pioneer. Those seem the biggest, particularly the gay culture ones.

The motive for this is being told in general conversation at a pub " You don't look gay, you don't sound gay.... are you sure you f**king gay?"

I guess this kind of stunned me, I was very aware of what the "token gay stereotype" was but I never thought of it as a general explanation for us all...
