I gave up work a year ago; this has left me feeling very bored and dissatisfied with life. I had a great job with a good pay packet and benefits. Now at 62, my children wanted me to quit work and take time off for myself so that I can have a leisurely life. I was enjoying myself initially, but now I am bored, disinterested in most things and do not know what to do the whole day? I want to lead a wholesome and happy life.

I assume that you are financially stable and just need something to do with your time?

Have you thought about volunteering for a cause that you identify with? If volunteering isn't your thing, are there any activities that you enjoy doing that can also be done in a more social context e.g. joining a club or association.

I guess the crux of the issue is finding ways to meet new people in a social context and letting it take off from there.

You definitely deserve to lay back and enjoy the morning sunshine, birds singing, and flowers blooming! Its good news that you followed your children’s’ advice and gave up work. You can take up a hobby and try new things; you now have time when there was none. Why don’t you take a peak at www.inspiredwomen.com.au for help? The site is indeed inspirational for women like you, who want more purpose in life and make it more interesting.

my uncle has just retired and seems to be up to something every day...I don't know how he does it! He's doing some volunteer work, going to the theatre, seems to be out with mates....

My mum does: community lunch once a month
spanish lessons
piano AND piano accordion lessons
helps look after my nephew
AND is a full time artist.

Don't suggest all that, she keeps wondering why she's tired!
