View Full Version : What are your new year's resolutions?

After reading Andy Gisby's story on resolutions for the year, it's made me think about what resolutions I'm going to make for 2007:
Resolution # 1: I wanna run far. My brother does marathons, and while I'd never like to aim that high, I might aim for the City to Surf. Have done it once, it almost killed me, and I'd love to try it again. So Reso # 1 = to run the City to Surf. Again.
Resolution # 2: To learn how to surf. Had one lesson last year with a mate and it was so much fun. Until my contacts fell out and I was left bobbing up and down in the middle of the ocean with no idea which way the beach was.
Resolution # 3: To get back to New York. My spiritual home.
Resoltuon # 4: To stick to the above resoultions. Are you allowed to make a resolution to stick to your resolutions? Should I feel twice as bad if I don't stick to them then?

Try not to make any resolutions that I can NOT KEEP !
- Actually to be healthier than this - which won't be too hard !!

well, after the horror story that was last year, i actually have decided that some nu year resolutions might be good for keep focus during 007. i mean so last year i taught myself photography, but lets try & top that right...? here goes:
new year resolution #1: i really have to teach myself how to cook. it's gotten beyond a joke. seriously, the same japanese takeout for lunch the last four days? nu-uh. no way. not anymore. yeah i maybe dishlexic, but i can beat it. can't i? where on earth do i begin?
new year resolution #2: get more poems published. i cringe now whenever my poetry mentor rings me up asking me to send work thru. why? because i forget. consistently. so yes...more poems to be sent off.
new year resolution #3: ugh...get that gym fit buff body back. i'm fit. i ride everyday. & hey, it being a scramjet imitation harley davidson chopper, not only does it look good, but the f**ker has absolutely no gears & weighs a tonne. literally. so i am fit. just need to eat properly.
new year resolution #4: stick with me. in other words: make sure i'm doing the best i can damn well do. instead of slacking off. which reminds me...christian's expecting some copy from me, so enough slacking off on here & back to the writing.
happy 007 everyone!!!

Resolution # 1: More Brad time. More of Graham. More of my friends and family. More relaxation and finally, more reflexology - I just had it done in Byron and I feel like a new man.
Resolution # 2: Maintain a healthier lifestyle - this includes getting back onto my healthy eating patterns and going back to boot camp (starting this Thursday) *insert look of sheer horror on my face*
Resolution # 3: Ensure that after each long contract I take a break and get out of Sydney. No more repeat performance's of Nov/Dec 2006 = crazy brad
Resolution # 4: Less nightclubs and dance parties  Now that im not in my 20's its time to settle down.
Resolution # 5: Keep to the above resolutions!

I'm so going to keep this thread alive and check in with how you're all going every month - so you better stick to them!

I have a few.
1: More quality time with good friends
2: More time for myself and find things that I like to do outside of work - Cooking has already started - I love it.
3: More travel - I have a trip to Hong Kong planned this year and I think one other toward the end of the year is in order.
Happy New Year.

Okay, I sat down with my friend Miss D last night and we came up with a list of our goals/desires for 2007. I made sure mine were really specific, so I could check them off and actually *know* when I get there...
Some of them are so incredibly degrading, there is no way I am sharing them publicly. But here are some that are fit for public consumption.
1. I want to travel to China this year - Shanghai, Beijing, Great Wall etc...
2. To find balance in all aspects of life - social, financial, domestic, professional...
3. I want to try three extreme sports this year (does parasailing qualify? or is that too passive? want to conquer my fear of heights...)
4. I have to get to bed at a reasonable hour during the week! 4 out of 5 days per week at 10.30 or earlier! This will make early morning gym sessions less heinous.
5. I want to read a new book each month. Currently finishing up The Bell Jar, next book on the list is Shappelle Corby's! I've already had a flick through the photos in it, can't wait to pick it up.
I think they're a good starting point anyway.
Last year I made the resolution to say yes to everything, which on the whole was quite a good one... I think I had chronic fatigue towards the end of the year, but I had loads of great stories to tell!
Yay. And now, back to work.

It's funny how my resolutions are exactly the same as last year, not that I didn't keep to my last ones, I just think I could do a better job at them...
1. Be better with my money ~ at the end of the month, actually have something to look at rather than just a full belly and broken liver
2. Loose that belly ~ personally, I don't think this is going to happen, but I'll say it anyway
3. go away more often ~ last "going away" was walking 10 mins from work to home, and vice versa... this year, I wanna see the sun, beaches and more of australia... It's really embarrassing when you have relatives who live overseas who have seen more of Oz than you have...

This thread is a becoming a little bit like self-help, eh?
Not that there's anything wrong with that. There's actually something quite cathartic about publicly airing your intentions, I'd highly recommend it to anyone else who's thinking about writing theirs down. I'm not lying when I say I'm going to be checking up!

um, mine are the same every year, but i'll try harder this year...
1. stop spending so much money on clothes... it's getting ridiculous, i only can wear one outfit at a time.
2. trim down and get fit - this one is achievable as i have done it before.
3. don't work so hard, ensuring time out from the hustle and bustle of life...

1. stop being so haphazard with the gym. i am anti-routine in my life, but fitness and health need routine, it's time i accepted that!
2. buy a flat - yes it's time for the bank to own more of me than i do ;)
3. hopefully this is something that work with point 2... get a pet. I love dogs especially, so fingers crossed I can find a dog-friendly flat

Resolution Update:
Resolution # 1: More Brad time. More of Graham. More of my friends and family. More relaxation and finally, more reflexology - I just had it done in Byron and I feel like a new man.
Update: So far more quality time with Graham.....the rest will come in March
Resolution # 2: Maintain a healthier lifestyle - this includes getting back onto my healthy eating patterns and going back to boot camp (starting this Thursday) *insert look of sheer horror on my face*
Update: Fail.... too much time being spent on current contract, no boot camp, no gym and eating when I have time.... :(
Resolution # 3: Ensure that after each long contract I take a break and get out of Sydney. No more repeat performance's of Nov/Dec 2006 = crazy brad
Update: About to book a holiday after Mardi Gras
Resolution # 4: Less nightclubs and dance parties Now that im not in my 20's its time to settle down.
Update: Yes. Resigned from my lighting job at ARQ, have only been out for a "big" night once this year to see Roger Sanchez
Resolution # 5: Keep to the above resolutions!
How are the rest of you going so far. It is about little steps right.?

1. I want to travel to China this year - Shanghai, Beijing, Great Wall etc...
Update - I have booked my flights! Going in April! Yay! Tick!
2. To find balance in all aspects of life - social, financial, domestic, professional...
Update - Definite failure there. I had the flu late last year and it has taken FOREVER to get rid of it. Tedious in the extreme, and have found it hard to get back into that routine (probably because my routine was so regimented last year and on some subconscious level my brain is saying 'You are not doing that again!' Am putting that back on the agenda though.
3. I want to try three extreme sports this year (does parasailing qualify? or is that too passive? want to conquer my fear of heights...)
Update - I have gotten in touch with a group called Adrenalin, so I've taken the first step. Although I almost had heart failure on a recent flight home from Melbourne as it was raining and I think Tom Cruise was our pilot. We're talking fear at a CELLULAR LEVEL.
4. I have to get to bed at a reasonable hour during the week! 4 out of 5 days per week at 10.30 or earlier! This will make early morning gym sessions less heinous.
Update - No comment.
5. I want to read a new book each month. Currently finishing up The Bell Jar, next book on the list is Shappelle Corby's! I've already had a flick through the photos in it, can't wait to pick it up.
Update - Am almost finished Shappelle's book!

Oh shit I feel guitly just for thinking about how much I haven't kept to these yet. But I'm alleviating some of this guilt just by typing this, so bear with me here:
Resolution # 1: I wanna run far. My brother does marathons, and while I'd never like to aim that high, I might aim for the City to Surf. Have done it once, it almost killed me, and I'd love to try it again. So Reso # 1 = to run the City to Surf. Again.
Does 25 minutes on a treadmill count as "running far"?
Resolution # 2: To learn how to surf. Had one lesson last year with a mate and it was so much fun. Until my contacts fell out and I was left bobbing up and down in the middle of the ocean with no idea which way the beach was.
Been travelling too much to hit the beach lately, so this one is still on the agenda just not completed yet.
Resolution # 3: To get back to New York. My spiritual home.
Maybe in August? Maybe? Just maybe?
Resoltuon # 4: To stick to the above resoultions. Are you allowed to make a resolution to stick to your resolutions? Should I feel twice as bad if I don't stick to them then?
Getting there. At least I haven't given up total hope yet...
