I'd like to see a 'slice of life' style or 'day in the life of' gay men & women just casually talking on a panel discussing real-life issues, because one thing Australian commercial TV hasn't really succeeded in is the 'talk show' genre.
One theme for each program. ( Topics could include drugs on the scene, open relationships, safe sex, gay identity, gay literature, gay law reform, coming out, gay homeless persons, gay success stories, homophobia, drag queens, gay role models, queer cinema, rural gay vs urban gay experience).
Perhaps you could have a 'Dear Abby' segment - people writing in asking for advice/commenting on the above topics

Perhaps a 'gay talent quest' for gay & lesbian singers, dancers, film makers, authors, stand-up comics, poets, artists; all vying for the title of 'Most Creative Gay' or something like that...

we want to cover alot of the issues that gay folk experience - parenting in same sex relationships, a dear abby is also something we have slated plus we are wanting to celebrate successful gay folk AND a day in the life of everyday gays because that's what we are!

You could do a whole series on gay parenting - dispelling myths of sex role stereotypes shaping the minds of *impressionable* kids in gay households. There's the homophobic view of 'kids from gay parenting living arrangements confuse children into thinking gay is normal' -- turn the issue into 'being a good parent is NORMAL' .
Childrens sense of self comes from a loving stable home and gender roles mean nothing when a strong partnership in parenting is presented to kids - regardless of whether Daddy & Dad raise them or not .
You could do a show on kids from 'rainbow' families & how they cope with being bullied at school; how these kids form the skills to flourish in the face of homophobia. you could turn it into a study forum-type program. Do a survey of kids in gay households and prove they academically, socially & mentally are no worse off than the average kid raised in the heterosexual family household.
My 10 year old nephew once told me this: 'Uncle Ash, I like it when you take me out for lunch because you always hold my hand when we cross the street. Daddy says I'm too big for him to hold my hand...but I'm really not...' A gay uncle instinctively knows how to protect & comfort his nephew, while the heterosexual biological father keeps his distance in view of his 'don't hold your sons' hand or he'll grow up to be gay' mindset...

I was pleased to read your reply because the issues that you've raised are what we plan to focus on; we have so much content to work from - we want to come from a good parenting focus rather than a gay focus so that we can convey the notion that a stable homelife isn't always a hetero one - if you have any more thoughts, please email us as gforcetv@live.com
