haha, sorry to resurrect an old thread, you should just send him his letter back, with what you've written on it.
Mine also replied, well not personally like that, he got one of his minions to email me but this was his response, which was similar, except he didn't really state his personal view, more stuck to the party line and constituent feedback
"
Dear Constituent,
RE: SAME SEX MARRIAGE
Dennis has received your email on same sex marriages and has asked me to respond on his behalf with his views on this.
Firstly, thank you for your email expressing your opinion, Dennis always like hearing from his constituents with what matters to them so he can best represent you and your views in Parliament. Currently Dennis won’t support same sex marriage however he represents his electorate and he has that view due to the overwhelming amount of letters, constituents and emails that don’t support same sex marriage.
In 2004, the Coalition amended the Marriage Act 1961 to define in legislation the common understanding in our community of marriage – “the union of man and a woman, to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life”. The Coalition believes that the majority of the Australian community agree with that definition.
This definition does not, in any way, seek to prevent or discourage people from entering into same sex relationships, but rather, simply recognises marriage as one of the bedrock institutions of society, which is the basis for forming families and which is underpinned by tradition.
The Coalition will not support legislation that would alter the status of traditional marriage between a man and a woman.
The Coalition, in the past, supported the passage of the Government’s Same Sex Reform legislation on the condition that nothing in its terms affected the status and centrality of traditional marriage between a man and a woman.
I know that this isn’t the best email as it unfortunately doesn’t bring the news you’d hope for however until such time that the majority of Tangney support same sex marriage Dennis can’t support it as he is elected by the Tangney people and it’s their views he has to represent in Parliament.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact Dennis.
Kind Regards,
Anna Ogilvie
Office of Dr Dennis Jensen MP
Federal Member for Tangney "
I did respond saying that maybe they should do some polling, as they haven't, and she said that was a good idea, and would bring it up with Dennis...
